Maple vs rosewood for dumb motherfuckers by Scott Grove

ROTFL

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

I didn't make it too far in this video. This is not how you teach people. This is how assholes talk to their pets.

People in glass houses should not throw stones.

I've learned in both my personal and professional life that there is very little reason to be anything but unfailingly kind. I try to limit my vitriol to assholes/ignorance. No reason not to smile and try to help, it will make you feel better and those you are dealing with happier. If somebody has something wrong, find the way to constructively help them.

I'm not sure he was really trying to teach anyone anything. Maybe just showing off? There might be some truth presented throughout his presentation, but much of it was talked over. I think it's just his idea of being funny.

I second Jake's coments.

More cowbell?? Nah...More Reverb!!

Of course, every word. But I seriously doubt his "fans" are interested in the educational value, if any, of his rants. I think they just laugh at him. And no, I'm not a fan.

hmmmm. don't know 'bout dis one. going with my instincts. jake is right.. Agree

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

Wow,
Funny that he's chastising people about the whole "rosewood neck" terminology and then proceeds to say that the skunk stripe truss rod filler is rosewood.
Walnut is the usual material.
That's about as far as I got, LOL

Poor guy. He's obviously very lonely and to me it looks like he's trying not to cry. Even his vitriol is not spoken with any confidence but nervous laughter...this guy's a sad mess!
Funny thing is I can hear attenuated highs even in this awful demo in such a poor setting it proves nothing...could be the angle of the guitar relative to the phone or whatever he's recording it on.

I love this guy! I don't know if he was trying to teach anything to anyone, but I've found that 'teaching' people on the internet is pretty much impossible. Most people have their preconceived notions about how things work and they just won't let them go. I've never been able to change someone's mind once they've decided to stick to their opinion, but I've found the fence sitters reading the discussion can be persuaded.

I especially enjoyed his definition of 'warmer'. I'm an electronics guy and early on, I found guitarists would describe something as being 'warm' when my test equipment showed only a loss of highs. This guy has it right. Just turn down the tone control and in musician-babble, you now have 'warmth'. He also talks about people who believe the pearl inlays on a Les Paul fingerboard will make some notes brighter and other notes 'warmer'. I'm glad I've never heard that particular form of nonsense before.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

I'm guessing these "educational" videos are a kind of gag. This video by Scott is entirely different; no swearing, no exaggerated southern accent, no ranting. Just a straight on tour of a rather extensive guitar collection. He comes across as very informative and pleasant. He's like an entirely different person.

I didn't get but 30 seconds in and bail on the video. Right wrong or indifferent there is nothing I want or need to watch or listen to from this guy.

Keep it Drippy Brothers and Sisters!

I thought it was funny as hell and obviously a joke on people who argue on forums about such minuscule things, that probably don't have any effect on tone, so I shared it for those who realize this and like a laugh. I do think he has a point to where guitarists can be extremely geeky sometimes and start comparing the smallest of details.

All in good fun though, you know how those gear page and les paul forums get Whatever

Smile

I think it's funny as well. The guy makes me laugh, but I also think it's funny how he's laughing at us as well.

Eddie VANHALEN likes maple finger boards ,
stevie ray vaughan when he was alive likes rosewood finger boards.
who is going to say thier dumb.

That joker is just yanking on the strings saying thiers no tone difference
he needs to actually play it ,and even two exact same made guitars will sound and feel different.I can feel and hear differences between maple and rosewood fingerboard am i imagining that?
He's good for a laugh i'm sure he's not seriouse a hole.

I have to agree with palo on "even two exact same made guitars will sound and feel different," and "I can feel and hear differences between maple and rosewood fingerboard am i imagining that?" No, you are not imagining. My 1996 MIM Stratocaster has a maple fingerboard, and my 2005 MIM Stratocaster has a rosewood fingerboard, and I can tell the differences between the two.

Fast Cars & Loud Guitars!

I don't have a opinion on maple or rosewood fretboards, but that guy pretty much sums up all the music store owners I've met in my whole life. Do they get special training to become what they are?
