Really nice review of the Showman/Bassman channel on this head! (click on the photos to enlarge them and make them easier to read.)

Very nice.i know they have a sonic 22 head also.
the ss100 head is very exspensive .is this the best head fender makes now days?

I like that it has auto tube bias control thats interesting tech.

"hip Fender tones"? What on earth are they?

Is this from 2013 or 1963?

If not for the expense I would be completely in love with the Super-Sonic line of Fender amps. They have really been improving with each addition since the original Super-Sonic 60.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

Those of us with long memories will recall the RAD Fender amplifiers from the 80's. Amps with a Bitchin' setting replicates the 70's Fender amplifiers while the Awesome switch is voiced to simulate 90's drive and EQ.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

R.A.D. pushbutton sound control. I have one I will part with, black carpet covering and all.

Fender also had H.O.T and J.A.M. amps back then.

Any chance we can keep this on topic? Those were truly horrid amps, unworthy of being mentioned in the same thread as this amp.

A good friend of mine and awesome Roadhouse Blues player uses a 60 version and it truly sounds great in his hands. His main ax is a Strat and he generally lives on the one ch. (Vibrolux/Bassman?).

I wish Fender would offer the same amp voiced for just the "vintage ch" and do away with the other "burn" channel thus offering it for less $$$. None I'm kind of a 1 ch stomp box guy.

I'm not looking for a new rig but it's nice to know these are floating around. I could def gig with one if I had to.

I was just having fun with Fender's marketing hype. I'm sure it's a great amp, but during my career as an amp-modder, I found that many guitarists get overwhelmed when there are a lot of knobs and switches on their amps. I would add bias controls, power reduction switches, channel switching, and so on, but the owner would just pick a configuration that worked for them and never touch those switches again. So they would ask me if I really needed to be adding the extra switches and controls. Why not just make an amp that sounds right in the first place?

The answer, of course, is different people are going to find their own configuration to stick with. That's when I decided to learn about the guitar player's style before I did anything to their amp. Then I'd go ahead and set up the amp for that stule, then go to a gig and add the final tweaks to the tone controls and such. It's a good approach but there's no way Fender can do this with mass production.

That's why Fender has to make these amps that have complicated circuit boards and a bunch of settings that people aren't going to use. We pay extra for all that stuff but we get what we want, sort of. So it goes.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

The phrase 'hip Fender tones' isn't Fender's marketing hype - it came from the above independent review of that amp by Guitar Player magazine. I don't understand why anybody would take issue with that phrase, actually. I think all surf guitarists are closely familiar with exactly what that phrase means.

Well, before getting into surf music, I often used channel-switching amps, and certainly didn't feel 'overwhelmed' by different options on an amp. I find it pretty baffling that a guitarist would find an amp like a Supersonic 'overwhelming.' It really doesn't have that many options, especially compared to any Mesa Boogie, for example, or really the great majority of modern amps. I believe that flexibility in an amp is prized by most guitarists today, and that Fender does actually know what they are doing, which is why they're selling a crapload more amps than boutique shops that make one-trick ponies. (And I'm speaking as a proud owner of an amazing boutique one-trick pony by an amp-maker/company that ultimately went out of a business.)

I wish I could play one of those amps. ATM my main amp is a '64 BF Bassman, which breaks up early (too early for my ears) and I wonder how the Showman circuit on the Super Sonic 100 sounds. Gigging small clubs and car shows, diners, etc. the powersoak just makes perfect sense to get a decent tone at a good volume. And the switchable resistance is brilliant, as I use different cabs. They are quite expensive though, especially in the EU. 1449,00 Euros (1960.00 USD!). But I really think about buying one. There's the option of buying a vintage Showman (which will be ~3000.00 USD - if I'm lucky enough to find one). The vintage one is loud and doesn't have the benefit of 'on the fly' biasing and resistance switch...man, this amp really got me now. I need to move some stuff, I guess.

The wife bought me this SS 100 head and matching 4X12 cabinet for my B/day and received everything yesterday. Will be playing around with it a lot after the holidays are over and will post what I think about it a month from then.

Stan, that is some wife you have! Wow! Definitely looking forward to reading your thoughts on the amp. It seems like it's the closest Fender has made to a vintage Showman in a long time. Obviously all of us always have the vintage amps, Showmans, Bandmasters, etc., but it is very nice that Fender is making something like this, too.

Have fun with it! It's gonna be a very merry Christmas for you!

I saw that, Dario, and I personally welcome the news extremely enthusiastically! My Surfer head and the G-Spring unit are simply unmatched! I have no doubt that they will be the foundation of my sound for as long as I'm playing surf music. I've achieved my tonal nirvana - the search is over. I'm very glad to hear you'll make it possible again for other players to get to that point!

Thanks Ivan. I have been shut down since 2011 (have not built anything new since) and needed to tend to other fun things in my life. :o)

The hope was to move what inventory I had and once it was low enough to just do custom work going further.

I more than likely will not be building the Surfer, Tahitian, G-Spring or El Sonido again. I don't have any more blank metal chassis for them, are selling their circuit boards and related material so what's built is built.

I WILL be building "G" Reverbs at some point. They are the only thing I'm truly interested in building and they will be done on a very limited basis and built to order. I'm currently writing down those interested and whom have contacted me via email. I will collect deposits should I reach 10-15 deposits. I have time this year to build them and a decision needs to be made by Feb. 15. After that, I will be on to other things should the production run not happen.

I personally thank you and all who have supported the business. Keep playing and recording.! :o)

Stan, your wife... She hasn't got a sister by any chance, has she?

Sorry no sisters, she's was the only child.
