Here is a video I shot with my iPhone of the Deadbeats playing one of their Latin numbers - Santa Barbara. The video is lousy, but the audio is pretty good and at least gives you an idea of how cool this was.

Here is another video from this evening -- Satan's Pilgrims this time. Once again, poor video but okay audio...

Excellent! Thanks for the videos Mary!

...continued from Portland thread...
So after not much sleep and many beers, we boarded a flight to San Francisco to play our first show there since 1999. Our wives and or girlfriends came along, as did our "manager" and Dutch superfan, Ewoud, who owns Shorty's, the best pinball and hotdog emporium in Seattle (go there!).
We landed, rented a church van, and made our way to the Motel Capri near the Marina, which turned out to be a great, affordable spot for us to spend the weekend. No sooner had we checked in and set our bags down and it was time to jump back in the van and head to soundcheck. At the club, we found The Deadbeats and some of the Gregors ready to help us figure out the backline we would use. They were able to get together enough Showman, Bassman and Vox AC30 amps to accomodate us (thanks fellas!) and Jonathan and Tony were kind enough to let me bang on their stuff.
After soundcheck, we ran to grab Mission burritos with Danny and Lady Reverb and soon the show was starting. Tiki Tena and Sean, Josheboy and Jenny, Bigtikidude, and other SG101 people made the trip up from SoCal, Doug came from Reno, and other old fans that we hadn't seen since the 90s and even people I hadn't seen from college in the 80s made it to the show. Facebook and social media really are the way these days. We reached out and got people to attend that would have never known if we had had to rely on ads in rags and posters on phone poles, like in the old days.
The Deadbeats-we all missed having wooza there, but Danny stood in for him and did a fantabulous job. I was really excited about seeing their new Chicha songs, and they were as good as I hoped. They are really on to something with this. Mixing surf with Chicha is as natural as anything could be. It was new and fresh, but reverent to both established forms. It was really cool and the crowd loved it! These guys impress me more and more every time I see them. Does anyone have video of these songs?
The Gregors then rounded out the bill with their 60s influenced chamber pop. I thought they sounded great and our friend Ewoud said that the whole bill was cool because it all drew on 60s music, but in totally different ways. AND they did their cover of "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO!
As for us, we were really excited to play. As fun as the big room of the Crystal Ballroom can be, lining up on a smaller stage in a smaller room is more of our natural habitat. We had a real blast, with plenty of flubs, but that's what we do! Laughing
The next day was a beautiful SF day and we walked at least 5 miles stopping only once for some mid afternoon drinks and a couple raw oysters before heading over to the Forbidden Island in Alameda. The Quiet Surfers were playing and the drinks were equally as good, and we had a really nice time getting to talk to everyone and catch up.
After that, we went out to celebrate our 20th year at a place we have been going to since the early days, House of Nanking. It was as good as ever, and we spent the rest of the night at a bar near our motel and then drinking rum and Tecate in Dave's room.
The next morning we had just enough time to grab some dim sum and then jump on the plane back to Portland!
A big thank you to Danny and The Deadbeats, The Gregors, Ferenc, and everyone that came out!

Funny you stayed at Motel Capri, I was staying at a friend's house less than a block away. It was great seeing the best surf band (past and present) two nights in a row. Each show had a different vibe but both were really enjoyable. The Deadbeats (+Chicha mini-set) were a real treat.

The Scimitars

Thanks, Mary! Thanks, Ted (for the report) and Satan's Pilgrims as w whole for two delightful shows. Sorry I couldn't make both!

Here is my report for that fateful night:

Deadbeats featuring Danny Snyder KILLED IT!!! The added coombia (or however you spell it) was pretty bad ass.

The 2nd band wasn't my style, but they played well. Tony singing and drumming at the same time blew my mind (how in the heck can people do that???)

Satan's Pilgrims are in a league of their own. They kept saying they were rusty, but if that's rust, then I don't think I could handle their amount of awesome when they are 100% rust free. Holy cow! Although I had a lot of fun all weekend and there were so many highlights, their set was worth the drive and the expenses and so much more. GREAT music!!!

Of course, hanging out with so many sg101 family was also great.

VIVA LOS PILGRIMS!!
