Not sure if any are aware around here that some of the ex band members of Midnight Oil/Violent Femmes have a Surf side band called The Break.
They released their second album earlier this year.
Pretty cool stuff!
Check a sample here.

They made a big splash here with their first kick ass CD.

Here is probably our biggest thread about them:

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

I saw Violent Femmes in 1981 at UC Irvine (a Friday night gig in the cafeteria!) and during their set guitarist/singer Gordon took forever to climb up the p.a. speakers during a song (he is short and the speakers tall)... when he finally got on top, he sorted out his bathrobe, yes bathrobe over Levis, pulled his telecaster around off his back and RIPPED into Pipeline with the bass player killing it on his acoustic bass. I was in a punk style surf instro band at the time and decided I was into the right kind of music when the Violent Femmes played a surf instro tune too, good times!

I went and saw The Break live last Friday night, cool outdoor gig right in the middle of the city (part of the Sydney Art & About Festival).

They are billed as a 'Surf Band' but they only play a few classic surf songs (they always do a great version of 'Penetration' live) they mostly play 'out there space/chant type music with some surf and spaghetti western thrown in. Its all good, but just not a straight surf band.

Sitting back watching them they looked like a bunch of school kids having a blast, laughing, telling gags, having a lot fun playing - great gig

Violent Femmes are one of my all time favourite bands.
