Any Danelectro/Silvertone fans in these parts?
I picked up the new for 2013 Danelectro DC Original last month. It's a cool guitar. They are back to being made in Korea(which some believe why the original reissues from the late 90s are so good). I compared it to my late 90s DC 59 RI and they got a few more of the details closer to the originals and I actually think its a better guitar than the late 90s model.
Anyway, all my comparing of the two made me start looking for a vintage one. I missed a one pickup 1965 short horn on eBay, but aside from that they have been going for stupid prices. So I looked into the Silvertone branded Danelectros. They also go for stupid prices on eBay but if you wait you can find a deal. I got this '66 for a hundred bucks more than a new reissue and it's light years ahead of the reissue as far as tone goes.
I can't stop playing it. It sounds fantastic. Think Rick Miller/Southern Culture on the Skids tones.

With this Silvertone you have maybe the best! Congratulations!!!
I owned the same guitar years ago. I played it live a lot! Good surf vibe! The keys are running in the other direction, which is very funny when you discover it the first time.
I sold it in lack of money... I missed a trem bar a bit, but this Silvertone is great!!!! Very cool looking and lightweight, good for elderly surf guitarists
And of course not comparable with reissues.
— Twang cheers!

A big Dano fan here. I've got an original 1 p-up double cut away, a Hodad Baritone, and a 90's reissue Longhorn Bass.

Nice collection! I think the 1449 will be my next model.

Thanks Bill.
It's embarrassing to admit but there are more around here not in that picture. An original Convertible, a 1457, a Dolphin Nose single pickup.....
FWIW, the 1449's are, in my experience, consistently "good". They are harder to find for a bargain as they were made only for a year but they are very cool.

I have a vintage '56 Danelectro U-1, and my brother has a 1448, and they are both great sounding funky guitars. That masonite is sure one sweet tone"wood".

Ha! Don't be embarrassed about that. I'm looking around the gear room at stuff I can turn into more Danos/Silvertones. The more the better right?

Used to own a reissue DC '59 in copper...oh how I wish I didn't sell it. Had a unique chimey sound to it and fun to play. I've been thinking lately of a Silvertone 1448 single pickup, never played one and I know they are smaller guitars, I don't know how limiting the 1 pickup would be but it's tempting. I also love my Silvertone 1482 amp, it's getting the caps changed and grounded cord installed right now, but what a cool amp.

I remember drooling over those as Sears when I was a kid, just thought they were the coolest things ever. The only Dano I have is the Wild Thing, which I really love. They are all really cool guitars. Everyone should have at least one.

Sweet! Love the old "redburst" guitatars.
BTW, CRMartin - The guitar in your avvy is one of the new P-90 stangs, right? Looks seriously cool.
Fun fact about those - Under the guard, they're routed for jazzy pups. So if anyone here has ever wanted a jazzy pup equipped mustang...

Yea, it is the new p-90 Mustang. It's an awesome guitar, I really love it. The P-90s sound awesome and it's just a beautiful guitar to look at.

Just won a 1964 Silvertone 1448 guitar/amp in case on eBay. Paid $350 with shipping, which I think is a fair deal considering they usually go for a few hundred more. Looks to be in really good shape, with original cable too. Will post pics and more info once it gets here. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve, waiting for it to be delivered to the door haha.
In 50/60 years, this stuff is either going to be like Civil War memorabilia worth thousands, or 100 year old trash. I hope it's the first one, and future generations appreciate these old fossils as much as I do. I saw a youtube video of a rock and roll museum that has the 1448 in a glass case with a decription next to it. Makes you realize how fast time goes.

Thank you, I hope it makes it to me in one piece, unlike the other thing that recently happened to a jaguar . If that was wood, imagine what would happen to cardboard! yikes

FWIW, during the Nashville flood a few years back the vintage Danos and Dano made Silvertones survived surprisingly well compared to the reissues and some solid body guitars.
They're tough buggers!
