Permalink Satan's Pilgrims 20th Anniversary Show Oct 31, 2013

Seeing Satan's Pilgrims in their home town for not only a reunion, but 20th anniversary show on Halloween night in a historic location was absolutely mind-blowing! The stage was huge, the lights and smoke were top-notch and the legendary Crystal Ballroom floor was bouncing with the energy of hundreds of revelers, many in costume! It was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience! Special thanks to Ted, Scott, Dave, John and Bob for still being the best and bringin' it! Also really cool to share the experience with Kick the Reverb, Homerhead and his wife, Tuck, DarrenK, and TFJ!

Amen to all that! I can't believe I've been lucky enough to see Satan's Pilgrims twice now. I'd sign up for a third any time! Simply put, they're amazing!

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

You're all welcome! I'm looking forward to seeing what Darren got!

La Cazuela

Pleading ignorance here, and inability to consult my ill-organized CD collection. What's the source on this song? Is it a SP original?

I'm curious if there was a sound board recording done and if its going to be somehow available ??? Thanks

Yeah, here and/or San Francisco.

Tuck, I think that is an original. It appears on Around the World With.

Thanks, JonPaul! La Cazuela fit so well with the spirit of the material in Around the World with ... in form and title that I always assumed it was as adaptation of some classic pop piece that I just didn't happen to know. (A possibility which covers a lot of ground, of course.) Anyway, I was looking for the composer to include the credit on YouTube and I couldn't find anything. It began to dawn on me that maybe it was an original. It certainly deserves to be a classic, and I suppose at this point it is. It's always been one of my favorites from ATW and it felt like a case of "watch us turn this great standard from [some Italian movie] into surf."

Ironically, La Cazuela is the only piece YouTube claims it has identified an owner for. This doesn't mean that I have to take it down, but it does mean that they can overlay advertising and presumably the income from that advertising goes partly to the owners of the copyright. They never say what identification they are making. I have to assume they are right. If the composition is not registered to SP in any formal way then I would be willing to ask. There are some other songs they might have misidentified it as.

SG101!-
It's been a week and I think I'm recovered and rehabbed enough to send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came and to those who could not attend, but sent their wishes and enthusiasm. I don't know if it was the anniversary year (which was actually 21, but we couldn't play last year and 20 sounded better), that made us reflect and more aware, or what, but this was the best year for us in a while. We had such a good time!!!!!!! Seeing Jonpaul, TFJ, Tuck, homerhead, plus other non-SG101 folks who traveled from places like Toronto to dance with us one more time made it a really fun night.
The Crystal Ballroom is a great place to play, but the sound is never stellar. They made the misinformed choice of installing sub woofers under the stage, which cannot be bypassed, but even before they installed those, the sound has always suffered, but it is a fun place to dance and see a show with a big crowd of people, and they made us the offer, so we made the best of it. And then there was SF...I'll continue over there...

In the Past (We the People and Chocolate Watchband cover)

Que Honda?

I think the latter is a Pilgrims original. Presumably a pun on "Que onda?" which would be something like "What's shaking?" i.e., in current usage "'S'up?" Or maybe they meant "Cual Hondel?"
