Someone, I wish I could remember his name, suggested to me over the convention weekend that the search results be sorted by date. I too have wanted this feature, so after a bit of work, this is now in place. So if you search for say, spaghetti, in forum topics, you'll get the most recent forum threads first in the list.

Can anyone name this gentlemen? He runs with the Southern surf crew (Penetrators, Mystery Men?) and has a radio show. I met him a few years ago in Atlanta at Trader Vics with Jamie and Stix.

As someone who uses the search feature every day, I'm very happy with the results. It's going to make finding recent conversations a whole lot easier. Thanks, Brian!

Does the search now sort results by date, word order and proximity?

Thanks! Smile

That's a nice bit of code- I usually just search with Google's "site:" attribute (I felt it also took some strain from your host), but that's a real improvement for searching this forum. I'll definitely be using it!

Was it James, the guy that wore the Penetrators t-shirt over the weekend? I don't know his last name.

Might be James Honeycutt (TikiHutDude on here)?

Brian, could it be Bill Raser? He is a local "super fan" who attends all the local shows and MC's the "Longboards & Longhorns" weekly surf show on WREK FM 91.1.

If so I can PM you his e-mail address.

Hi Brian. I've just noticed something while searching. The number of posts for each thread are all the same number.

Edit. sorry my mistake. But what are those numbers in brackets?

That is the "score" of the result. That has confused a lot of folks and I thought about removing it, but now that we are listing results by date it is handy.

I've upgraded the search engine software, and after a bit of struggle, in order to work around something, I changed the search form. You can now more easily search for an exact phrase and even exclude terms from your search. I hope you find it useful.

surf music, original song, -tiki, -sax

Also, search engine must be broken. "Jake is cool" returns 0 results.

Excellent. Just for a test, I did a search for "reverb pedal" and was able to exclude every post that included "FRV". It worked perfectly. Not a single result included it. Thanks a lot!

It will return results shortly, once this post gets indexed! But who needs a computer to tell you Jake is cool?

Ha, I realized that after I posed that "jake is cool" will now be a result. Lies...

Yeah, who needs a computer for that!

Please note the 2nd box: search for an exact word or phrase. If you are searching for a band or song title, it is best to use that box.

Brian, I have an idea. Would it be possible to filter searches by Member Name? For example, you don't include your name anywhere in your posts; lots of us don't. While I can look up all your posts, I can't search within them. Even if everyone named "Brian" added "Brian" somewhere in their posts, I'd retrieve every post that mentioned "Brian", not just posts by you. If you added Member Name to the search page, I could filter searches by just one person, which is very often all I'm looking for. Thanks!
