I freaking hate most music stores...If I want to feel how a guitar plays Ill play unplugged. I have a friend that works at my local music store here and what I do is have him play any guitar I want through any amp, and he'll gladly do it................
would that be at alpha music?

If I remember correctly Rip and I always had one thing in common, the first riff that came from either of us picking up a guitar for the first time was the intro to Mr Moto. Not only is it probably the most fun and cool thing I can think of on the spot but hardly anybody outside the surf set has a clue what you are doing. Then I have this little 1st string exercise take off of Hava Nagila that always impresses me and usually any smart ass that might be hanging around. My comfort tune is one we wrote called Nichol Beer. When trying out new stuff, fool 'em, play your originals!
Hey Surfdaddy, Katcher's gotcha beat....you're a mere kid......ed
— Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

I would play and sing "My Ding-A-Ling" by Chuck Berry.

If you're trying to attract attention (which I'm usually not...):
Man of Mystery by The Shadows almost always elicits a question or too: "What is that progression, that is too cool!"
Any Chet Atkins tune will turn a head or two, just because most people won't dare try it. Mr. Sandman or Young Thing are good for that.
The Yardbird's Jeff's Boogie is also good - a lotta kids today don't know it and ask what it is. it's still cool...

but if no one else is around I'll mess around with Slayer's "War Ensemble."
-Warren
Now that's what I like to see on a surf list, A SLAYER reference, ha ha!!
For me on Bass, I usually just noodle around on scales and patterns.
I'm more listeining to the tone, not my playing( which is bad).
Jeff(bigtikidude)
Man, you got that wrong. Here, let me correct this for you:
Now that's what I like to see on a surf list, a SLAAAAYEEEERRRR!!! reference, ha ha!!
Now, that's the proper way of saying SLAAAAYEEEERRRR!!!. Because everybody knows that when you say SLAAAAYEEEERRRR!!!, it can't be said in a normal tone of voice. It's gotta be screamed. Always.

Definitely. I believe it's Guitar Boogie by Chuck Berry, though maybe even that's not the first version. Beck and the rest of the Yardbirds really nail it down, of course.
Really cool that you do this one and it still turns heads!

I always seem to default to
MR MOTO
WALK DON'T RUN
and BRoWN SUGAR by the Stones (so I can hear how the Guitar Amp handle distorted chords)

Seriously. It's like a commandment or something.

CCR- Born on the Buyo, Crosstie Walker, Sinister Purpose.
Bowie- Rebel Rebel
Outlaws- Green Grass & High tides
Surfy tunes- Bumble Bee Twist, Pipeline, Lonely Girl, Outer Limits, Last Date, Steel Guitar Rag.

I tend to have fun with my "Smoke On The Water" and "Aqualung" smashup. Most folks have some fun listening to it, wondering "will he play the whole next phrase, or will he switch songs again?" Some folks get this look on their face of "could ya pick one, and go with it!?"

I dunno. . . I usually play "Rebel Rouser" by Duane Eddy, or
"Drug Train" by The Cramps when testing Gretsches, and
"Miserlou" or "Playa de los Muertos" by The Bomboras when
testing Strats. Of course, I ALWAYS ask to be plugged into a
Fender Hot Rod DeVille (or some other Fender amp with Reverb).
But I'm so damn self-conscious about my playing (even with
keyboards), that I only play a few lines, and that's it. Lame, I know.
