I put this in the gear section but when I mean gear I really mean my hand!
Anyone ever had surgery on a dorsal ganglion cyst? How has it affected your playing if you have?
My doctor says they are very common among us musicians. I'd be interested to hear your story's.

The traditional method of treating a ganglion was to disperse it by whacking it with a Bible, although I'm sure that any large tome would have served equally well. I gather that this approach is rather discouraged these days.

According to http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00006 after surgery most activities can be resumed in 4-6 weeks no problem.

I had one removed at the base of my left hand fore finger. It interfered with playing barre chords as the cyst hit right at the edge of the neck and would become sore in short order. The removal was painless, done in the doctors office, and all is good. Just a battle scar remains.
