Permalink Ideal length of strings behind bridge with Hofner/Teisco whammy tailpiece?

New Topic

Hi. I am nearing completion of my gilded Teisco EC200 project and after french polish shellac finish is complete, I will reassemble it with new GFS Hofner-type whammy tailpiece. I was wondering is there an ideal length of string behind the bridge at which I should install the unit, to get the best action. The EC200 had a very light, stretchy action with the original clamshell tailpiece and a Rickenbacker-type replacement bridge.
Also, would shimming the neck for increased string break across the bridge be recommended?
I will post pics when the project is done. Big Grin
