Everything works in the world of surf music. Just take your cues from songs you have like in the past and add your personality.

So we aren't doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past?

yes we are doomed. This was acutally meant for the rhytm guitar question. The surf guitar is a very easy art to work with. The music has always been created by people of every skill level. I have come across every style of playing in surf music. The only thing that is consistent is the tone. Although their are people out there who don't even bother with what is called a "proper" tone.
