What Danny said! I got to listen to the whole thing yesterday, and really enjoyed it! Thank you, Jonpaul (and also for all the nice words about Ancient Winds!)

REALLY great show today, Jonpaul! Loved that you started with the Galaxy Trio, I completely agree those guys don't get nearly enough attention, they were a very, very cool band. Lots of great new stuff on the show, too, that I wasn't familiar with before. I'll have to track some of that down - looking forward to seeing the full tracklist. And of course, thanks so much for playing Into the Deep and saying such nice things about it, too!

Hope you and Dave and the rest of the Insects are having a great time in Utah and Nevada!

Great show, JP! I'm going to download and listen to it again. Big Grin

Ok so you're not here this weekend. Where can we find the playlist for the show that was netcasted? Actually it was kinda nice hearing more music than commentary diluting the music, IMHO.;)

I seem to be stuck in a timewarp. The show I just downloaded seems to be from last year, when "Wiki Wacky Woo" came out.

Squink Out!

So, the physical Luxuria studios are in the process of moving and all broadcasting is on hold for the time being. I'll update as soon as I know when new shows will resume. In the meantime, I'm gathering all kinds of great material for new shows!

Jo, when I'm out of town and haven't had time to pre-record a new show, they'll just run a re-run. I never know when these may be from. You probably just happened to catch a re-run from a long time ago. BTW, thanks for listening to old shows!

Duke, earlier in this thread, I indicated that playlists would be listed on the facebook page from then on. I try to copy them here as well. If Luxuria plays a re-run because I'm out of town on a gig, I have no way to know which one it's going to be, therefore, don't/can't post the playlist.

Thanks for listening!!!

Incidentally, it's important to me that the show be something that is enjoyable to listen to and that the music is always the number one priority. I certainly don't want the music to be "diluted" by my own commentary. I've had several in-depth conversations about this with regular listeners, and all expressed that on the contrary, my commentary is one of their favorite aspects of the show. They, along with Luxuria station management, have expressed that they appreciate delving in to the facts and backgrounds of the bands and releases a great deal.

But, I'm open-minded, humble and always willing to do raise the bar, improve and strive to do the best I can.

So, what do the listeners say? Am I "diluting" the music with too much commentary? And if that's the case, what's the point of doing a specialty show like this if the DJ isn't supposed to comment on the music?

Listening to good songs is OK, but I really want to know what Jonpaul thinks about stuff. More talking!

I absolutely agree that you give great insights into the music, and less would be a mistake! It's YOUR playlist, and I think we want to know why you picked the songs you pick, and any importance or impact that said songs have had on the genre.

JonPaul,

Keep talking! Keep your commentary! I know you aren't a sports guy, but you should check out Vin Scully some time. He's more than just a sports broadcaster, and his greatness comes from more than just his longevity. He's a story teller. His passion and enthusiasm for the game is evident in every word and phrase, and his insights and commentary on the routine/boring baseball moments is just as poignant as when he is broadcasting a historical moment.

Anybody can put together a playlist. Anybody can click an mp3 or put a CD in a player and push play. Anyone can read off a setlist on the air. But to do those things with evident passion and enthusiasm, combined with subject matter expertise and a penchant for story telling, then you cross over into the art of true presentation. It's what separates the playlist players from the real DJs.

I remember your first Luxuria show. You did well, but you could hear your nerves and the tech issues were rattling you a bit. You pulled it off, but when I listen to you now, its like you're not even the same guy. You've grown, you've gotten better, and you've crossed over into that territory that sets you apart from the internet insta-DJs, and a big part of that is your commentary. You dig in deeper, you explore, you inform... you tell a story!

Keep it up brotha!

Can't wait to hear the next show!

Cool

What the 'Shogg said above.
Long as you have something to share, say it.

Squink Out!

I like all the info, keep on yapping.
I know it's easy to go off for awhile.
Maybe have a little 3 min egg timer hour glass.
Wink

What has happened to the show? I download the podcasts every Sunday, but the last three Sundays they just contain general Luxuria music. No Fiberglass Jungle.

Sigh

Station is moving
