I just hope you folks manage to keep it up and satisfy yourselves. Sounds like such a great idea.

Howdy,

I replied to your CL ad about a month ago. I never heard anything so I figure I'm not up your alley.

It sounds cool, though life has kind of filled up for me at the moment. I'm not opposed to the idea or anything. Let me know if you're interested and we can see if our schedules intersect.

Cheers!

Benadrian,
(cool name – sounds Arabic, as in Spring Reverb)
Check your inbox for a PM response. Sorry I missed your note last month!

Sounds like a cool project. I am in Texas, but am totally into this kind of thing. Check out Twangslinger I uploaded to soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/#search?q=twangslinger

c'mon, dude...i'm in the mojave desert...and it's never too far!

Yeah, only like 200 miles. Was nothing to the Manson gang to drive in their dune buggies after a night of high spirited shenanigans.

You must be into biker fuzztone music if you live in Mojave, right?

So hows the band/project coming along?

Well, I keep playing. Typically for LA, there is lots of time between meetings, which has a deleterious effect – wondering if/when this is going to take off. Must mean I should be in 3 bands. This week we will meet with a bassist, God willing, then maybe next week with a second guitarist. I am also auditioning for two other dudes' bands within the month. I really don't want to stay at home every night with my guitars! Wish me luck!

Squink Out!

I forgot to mention that we auditioned a 2nd guitarist a couple weeks ago. He knows a lot about instruments (works for a certain major mfr popular with surf musicians). He's such a nice guy I'm sure we can work him in somehow.

Squink Out!

Right now, for audition, we have honed (there's that word again) the setlist down to :

Bacharach's "What's New, Pussycat?"
G.F. Handel/W.Carlos' "Music for Funeral of Queen Mary"(Processional for horn band)/Title Music for Clockwork Orange

E. Morricone's "il Clan dei Siciliani" Title music

Gouldman/Yardbirds' "Evil Hearted You"
+ my original which is indescribable except as maybe a cross between J. Carpenter & Morricone.

Mike and I are still looking for a third (and fourth) member to make the band.
See head of thread for contact.
Thanks!
John

James, et.al.,
Set list we are focusing on now:

"Exodus Theme" (Ernest Gold) "Faster, Pussycat" (Boss Tweeds) "The Sicilian Clan"(Ennio Morricone) "Midnight Cowboy"(John Barry, a la Jeff Beck Group) "Clockwork Orange/Queen Mary's Funeral Processional" (G.F. Handel/W.Carlos a la Astronauts) Also horking on Morricone tunes from Sergio Leone movies – "Fistful of Dollars", "Man with a Harmonica", "Once upon a Time in the West". I have a couple fresh originals just composed, one a slow minor almost jazz thing with a gypsy/slavic feel and another frenetic (also minor) confrontation of John Carpenter with Maestro Morricone.
I also have worked on a Dick Dale-ish rendition of Maurice Jarre's "Lawrence of Arabia". I guess you could say we're a cinematic guitar outfit with an exotic edge.

Squink Out!

Mike, the drummer, has a new film production out soon, entitled, "President Wolfman". It's made entirely out of vintage 50's-70's found/stock footage.
Anyhow, he also came up with a brilliant name for our proposed outfit – which is STILL LOOKING FOR A BASSIST & 2ND GUITARIST

We're now called BOCCACCIO 70.

Squink Out!

Still looking for a bassist that knows his way around a secondary dominant! (may have landed appropriately looney 2nd guitarist).

Squink Out!

Jo-Jo, you go. Don't listen to the snobs.

Josh
The Noble Gasses

Can you lend me a bassist, Josh? How about a rotating line-up? Months ago I got calls from interested folks, like lap-steelists who told me to get back to them when I had a full band they could join as sidemen.

...did someone say "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Boccaccio" ?

...working on tunes about the Venetian Plague Days?...
