Hi Mike, I've also seen a mod where a 6BM8/ECL82 driver tube is used to drive the tank. This tube is a combination of a triode and power pentode, so you get an extra gain stage to play with. Take a look at Fig. 2:

I learned about this mod just before I bought a real Fender reverb tank so I lost my motivation to continue with my combo amp experiments. Since then, the price of the silverface amps has gone up and there doesn't seem to be any interest in modding these amps now that they have become 'vintage'.
As for the Gerald Weber mod, I've learned not to read anything from him because his numerous technical errors cause my blood pressure to rise. Maybe it's a good mod but I just can't take the risk.

I'm sorry....it's NOT a Gerald Weber mod....it was mentioned in one of his books.....the mod was created by Sampo Kolkki from Finland.
I still have the cable in the back of my amp in case something goes wrong with the tank.

Hi BJB, that could be a very cool idea for a compact/low parts count all-tube reverb stage/add-on. I'd shrink the interstage coupling and probably the pentode's cathode bypass to get the high-pass filtering that guitar reverbs like (thinking out loud...). Thanks for the link!
