Altar,
I'll be the first to admit that sometimes my posts
Can be rude and uncalled for.
But it's usually done out of joking around
To liven things up a bit around here.
Lately yer replying to almost every thread and acting
Like you know so much about surf is getting really
Annoying. How bout not posting and just reading
For awhile. Or better yet.
Step away from the computer and go outside and ride
A bike. Or play yer guitar. Or listen to a surf cd.
But get off sg101 for awhile and chill out.

Not a BC rich but here's an early Man or Astroman video where Starcrunch is using a Charvel and it sounds pretty surfy.
(I posted this video once before but couldn't find it so I apologize for double posting it).

I'm 60, and I try really hard to remember I don't know as much as I sometimes sound like I think I do. I don't succeed as much as I ought. My son is older than Altar by several years and I'm still waiting for him to admit he doesn't possess all the knowledge of the universe. He speaks with the certainly of Solomon about things of which he's never heard. So did my High School History students. So did I when I was very young. It's a stage. And it gets worse before it gets better. I remember college. (I'm not THAT old.)
I've posted some duds here that I wish I could remove from the memories of everyone who's read them. So have a few others if I recall. I suppose the risk increases with the number of comments.
I love this site. People here literally changed my life.

I started out learning surf techniques (thanks to Jason Lee's videos on youtube) using a B.C. Rich Warlock, running it through a Line 6 Spyder with it's reverb cranked to the max. Later once I was able to upgrade some of my equipment and utilize a Fender RI Reverb Tank, Fender Frontman amp, and Squire Strat, the Warlock became relegated to use for other playing styles. But I have plugged it into my "surf" setup, and it sounds pretty decent, not exactly the quintessential Surf sound, but still not too bad. Actually in many ways it sounds better than my Strat, simply because the B.C. Rich humbuckers on the Warlock are of a better quality than the cheap pickups Squire utilized for this particular Strat.

I have long said I am going to purchase a cheap B.C. Rich Warlock and put in P-90's and a Hallmark/Shade tremolo...

I'm using a Peavey Mystic at times...and a Fernandes Vertigo with added Bigsby, er and Yamaha RGX-A2 (3 of them). Slap an Iron Cross sticker on em and go.

I'm not sure if this thread is about the original question or not but heres my thoughts on the Hi Hat debate . You definitely need them for certain parts of song, but I do find surf to be much more Ride friendly than other styles of music. I personally prefer using my ride more than my hats but I play more of a Jazz technique. I do employ a double kick pedal sparingly for accents ,fills and solos. I would also talk with your band mates and get their feedback as some guitarist find to much Ride overwhelming .

Slightly off of our multiple topics, but do the aqua velvets use a drum machine? That's what it sounds like to me.
Also, thanks for the video.

I seem to recall they did on at least some recordings, but when I saw them live they had a drummer.
