Permalink My website got HACKED!

New Topic
Page 1 of 1

Had a couple of people tell me they were getting a warning from their Norton antivirus when opening the Surfonics homepage this morning so I checked it out and found a line of code someone had inserted into my index page! My webhosting company's tech support was really helpful and I was able to remove the line of code and disable the "anonymous FTP" setting which we think is how they got in. So now it should be fixed.

Yes. This site has also been a target of such attacks.

Here's what I found when I did a Google search on the address in the line of code:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=x-road.co.kr&btnG=Google+Search

It doesn't appear to be particularly dangerous, fortunately.

Ugh.

what is the point or the goal of the hackers?

It varies, but usually it is just to deface or vandalize a site, proving how elite (or l33t) they are. Mad

Sometimes they try to hide hacker scripts on your site so they can attack other sites using yours.

My e-bay account got hacked last month, and they listed 430 items, all with REALLY good buy it now prices. I got it all straightened out with no real issues, but when I was erasing all the listing e-mails, I found myself looking at the items and thinking - "wow, thats a really good deal, I should bid on that!"

I don't know if this is the right place for this but.....our myspace profile gives me this everytime i try to log in:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<Web>

<configuration>
<system>
<customErrors>
</system>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<Web>

<configuration>
<system>
<customErrors>
</system>
</configuration>

I have no idea what any of this means but i can't log in or contact them or anything.......any ideas?

Myspace is really notorious for running a creaking, buggy ship. I suspect it will magically go away after X hours and you'll be able to log in again.

We had a similar problem on the Secret Samurai site. Someone actually added links to their sites on our 'links' page. Pretty annoying. I changed ISPs as a result.
