anyone have any good reccomendations for surf bands. Prefferably ones I can download from Limewire.
I already have most Dick Dale, Chantays, Ventures stuff. I need some new surf material to pop into my ipod. Thanks.

Not traditional at all, but try the Mermen. Their cd's should be easy to find. Jeff(bigtikidude) —Jeff(bigtikidude) |

Give Daikaiju (www.daikaiju.net) a spin, their new one has been in my CD player non-stop since it came out, amazing stuff. Lots of streaming songs on their webpage too |

I've been playing/listening to this stuff for 40+ years, and my favorite "all original" album is The Volcanos' "Surf Quake"... Great writing, very good production, and precise, kick-ass playing. This one is a must for any collection. The Space Cossacks' "Interstellar Stomp" gets my vote for runner-up. Ivan is probably the best player out there today, along with Dave Wronski. —Jack Booth The Mariners (1964-68, 1996-2005) |

Thanks very much, Woody! That's very nice of you to say, but man, there are SO many great lead guitarists out in the surf land! Shigeo Naka and Frankie Blandino are two guys that immediately come to mind (besides Mr. Wronski) to whom I bow down very deeply.... There are many more. Ever see Evan Foster play surf? Man... Those are some of MY (modern) heros. Thank God it's not a competition! So many surf CDs I pick up I think, damn, that's some hot pickin'! Never a shortage of inspiration out there... BTW, if you want to see my new band the Madeira AND the Volcanos in action, you could try to catch one of our TWO shows together in the next month! One in Detroit, on Saturday, May 13th, and one in Chicago, May 27th (the latter one with the great Cocktail Preachers, too!). So, how about it? Good to see you here.
