Search for it on YouTube. There's great video of a Japanese gentleman playing a white RI Jaguar along to what I believe is a live version of the Ventures.
Great shots of his hands. Massive instructional value. With that video I learned the song in one evening.

Pipeline after hearing Agent Orange doing it and then Walk Don't Run afer hearing JFA doing it. I come from a punk rock background. Those basslines are not difficult but very fun to play! =)

I am new to this forum and to guitar. I am in love with the whole Surf Guitar sound. I am this close to getting Pipeline down. The fact that I just bought a new lake placid blue Strat has encouraged me to practice more. I might try Walk, Don't Run next or Ghost Riders in the Sky.

These were my introductions to surf as well. Pipeline was my first, note for note from the Agent Orange arrangement.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

still fun to play...

i didn't think it was a "surf" song, i just liked it.

Welcome Jonny Hotrod! Walk don't run baby! It took me a while to pick it by ear but I made my wife learn the rhythm guitar part so I could nail it.

My advice would be to skip Walk Don't run until you learn a few easier ones. It is not super hard but it has a quirky rhythm. Less swearing and what not.

I also picked out the leads on a song called "Spinner" from a Bay Area Band called The Movie Stars. I have it on a CD I bought at a show in Seattle in 1992. The guitarist name is Michael Montalto and he currently is in a country band called Red Meat. Any of you bay area dudes no him?

I still can't play spinner for sh#t but I keep trying.

I don't know Michael personally but I know Red Meat, and man can that guy twang a guitar! I just saw on their website that he was in The Jars, which a friend of mine was also in before I knew him, small world.

Ghost Riders in the Sky from Hal Leonard's Classic Rock Instrumentals. I only see the second edition online now, but it has most of the same songs. All of which I learned eventually;
Walk Don't Run
Wipeout
Pipeline
Apache
Slaughter on Tenth Ave.
Hawaii 5-0
Rebel Rouser
Miserlou

Now for something completely different.....Pipeline....Okay not so different. The version that inspired me was by Anthrax on their Attack of the killer B's CD.. Big Grin

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

Los Straitjackets' "Christmas in Las Vegas" from their 2002 'Tis The Season album.

To Boldly go where no Tiki has gone before...

Surfing Cow by the Dead Milkmen

and first post repping Dead Milkmen

Apache & Misirlou, but when I started to get serious abut surf I really worked on The Ghastly Ones' Ghastly Stomp.

Not counting the infinite number of Link Wray songs I learned, though...
