OK then, it would be Apache because it was the first one in the ventures book I bought.

Search for it on YouTube. There's great video of a Japanese gentleman playing a white RI Jaguar along to what I believe is a live version of the Ventures. Eric Update - Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSttcTDqCCU&list=FLm6qwWWJHftUbUkS6CEZqSw Last edited: Mar 06, 2013 05:54:17 |

Pipeline after hearing Agent Orange doing it and then Walk Don't Run afer hearing JFA doing it. I come from a punk rock background. Those basslines are not difficult but very fun to play! =) |

I am new to this forum and to guitar. I am in love with the whole Surf Guitar sound. I am this close to getting Pipeline down. The fact that I just bought a new lake placid blue Strat has encouraged me to practice more. I might try Walk, Don't Run next or Ghost Riders in the Sky. —Jonny |

Welcome Jonny Hotrod! Walk don't run baby! It took me a while to pick it by ear but I made my wife learn the rhythm guitar part so I could nail it. My advice would be to skip Walk Don't run until you learn a few easier ones. It is not super hard but it has a quirky rhythm. Less swearing and what not. I also picked out the leads on a song called "Spinner" from a Bay Area Band called The Movie Stars. I have it on a CD I bought at a show in Seattle in 1992. The guitarist name is Michael Montalto and he currently is in a country band called Red Meat. Any of you bay area dudes no him? I still can't play spinner for sh#t but I keep trying. |

I don't know Michael personally but I know Red Meat, and man can that guy twang a guitar! Ghost Riders in the Sky from Hal Leonard's Classic Rock Instrumentals. I only see the second edition online now, but it has most of the same songs. All of which I learned eventually; Always down to trade records!!! |

Apache & Misirlou, but when I started to get serious abut surf I really worked on The Ghastly Ones' Ghastly Stomp. Not counting the infinite number of Link Wray songs I learned, though... —Rumble ! |
