I'm sure the Shadows fanatics were all a-buzz about that photo.

Especially since it features the All Seeing Eye - top center.

I love this photo. This is how more bands should record! You get a much different result this way. I seriously doubt that EMI would have sprung for any extra musicians for a 'pop' session back then, as they considered it 'throw-away'. Any sweetening would have been done from within the ranks. Also I don't believe EMI did much if any overdubbing back then (pre-beatles). At the point this picture was taken, they only had mono and stereo recorders, and overdubbing would have been way too expensive (time and tape)and laborious for a 'pop' recording.
When we were mixing our last record a year and a half ago, I had the good fortune of meeting Malcolm Addey. He works in NY doing tape restoration (tape baking and such) and just happened to be dropping off some tapes at the studio we were working at during our mixing sessions. Mr. Addey was the engineer on some of the Shadows sessions, not to mention a couple of Beatles sessions and Johnny Kidd and the Pirates! Needless to say I was thrilled to meet him as I am most interested in that period of recording. I took the opportunity to pick his brain as much as I could during the brief meeting, even though I was very nervous. Mixing a song with a guy like that in the same room is nerve racking to say the least (that particular mix made it on the album though!). The guy who runs the studio has a working relationship with Mr. Addey, so I'll see if I can get him to ask him about sweetening and extra musicians back then. I can't gaurantee an answer but I'll give it a shot.

I looked at the clock on the wall to see the time of day, the mic placement, muti outlet power cord, ash tray. But I missed the eye.

The Illuminati? Masonic oversight? Big Brother?

With Cliff Richard in the picture it would be Holy Trinity wouldn't it?

lol, yet again! Nicely said!

I'm intrigued by all this smoking gun stuff. Despite Bruce's recollection (which is obviously imperfect) there is Cliff Richard pictured at a recording session playing acoustic guitar in front of a mic. Even if they were only rehearsing, that is compelling evidence!

It was very popular in burlesque and vaudeville for comedians or singers to do bits where they performed parodies of women performers. Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye did it in White Christmas. Milton Berle made a career out of it. For a time, Carmen Miranda (The Lady in the Tutti Fruitti Hat) was the prime target for all this frippancy.

Even Daffy Duck did it.

I added Carmen's original version of "I, Yi, Yi, Yi, Yi (I Like You Very Much)" from That Night in Rio.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.
