Surf Songs by NON Surf bands . . . possibley not even being aware that they're playing a Surf type song.
my entry to start this off.....
ON THE MOVE - Dave Clark Five
Very Downey Studios like......all the driving drums and throbbing bass a Surf Song could ask for....and a wailing sax, also. Works for me.
anyone ?

Rock Lobster!...
I'd second that and include:
"Planet Claire" and maybe even "Private Idaho"...

"Killing an Arab" by The Cure borders pretty close to surf territory. "I Walk the Line" (not a Johnny Cash cover" by Alien Sex Fiend comes kinda close, too. "Cecilia Ann" by The Pixies has already been mentioned...that's all I can think of at the moment.

Dont know the titles, but
Green Day has 2,
REM has some,
The Smithereens has a few
The GoGos Surfin and Spyin' (instro), Beatnik Beach (vocal)
Cracker, the band that David Lowry of Camper Van Beethoven started
has some on a promo best of 2 cd set.
Hope somebody can fill in these song titles so it will help in looking for them.

B-52s were obviously heavily influenced by surf.....
"Follow Your Bliss", the last cut on Cosmic Thing is damn close to a full fledged surf instrumental in my book......

It's got that Duane Eddy deep-twang vibe alright.
Although you know that's the "new" guitar player (who used to be the drummer)

Pearl Jam had a tune called "Gremmie Out of Control" that was on their two-disc set that had a lot of surfy licks in it.

WHITE WEDDING ~ Billy Idol
wow.... you guys are really making me stretch my brain to take a close look at how music works....
but yeah.... I always sorta liked that song. It moves along pretty good.
The Chris Isaak thing is probably the opening guitar work on 'HEART SHAPED WORLD' ..eh?
How about the Wachovia commercials that used to be on TV a couple years ago ? Same kinda thing.... Stratocaster whammy work with reverb and blackface ambiance.
B-52's ???
FOLLOW YOUR BLISS - yes

My roomate and I were listening to a Cul de Sac album, not sure which one though. Some of the chord progressions were pretty 'surfy'. Overall it was a great laid back instrumental album.
The main riff in the Megadeth song 'Rattlehead' is identical to Dick Dale's 'Nitro' and even predates it, having been released in 1985.

Hey Pointbreakspy, I mentioned Wedding Cake Island already but I'm glad someone else knows that one. It definitely got me headed back in the right direction. I was a huge fan of the Oils and met them in L.A., and Santa Barbara during the Diesel and Dust Tour. Their music was punctuated by lots of surfy sounds. Lucky Country!

That one is actually a surf song, originally by the Silly Surfers which was a Gary Usher studio project.

How about Isaak's "Super Magic 2000" from the Speak of the Devil album? It's actually an instro, and when he plays it live they do the 'Shadow Walk" (the steps used by the Shadows for some of their songs), which i read in a interview he actually ripped off from the Shadows.
Anyway, the track doesn't have much reverb, but it's definitely surfy...
There was also Green Day's "Last Ride In" a few years ago, did somebody mention that yet?
