Hi, you are in luck. The Hellbenders are 3/4 of the surf band The Volcanos. Rick (from both bands) is a member here. He may chime in here or you can shoot him a PM. His username is Volcano_Rick.
I'm a big Hellbenders/Volcanos fan myself. Midwest_Surf_Guy just posted some Volcanos clips on YouTube, and I have some b&w ones too. Check them out!

The Hellbenders are amazing, and their debut CD is simply brilliant. They also released an EP by the name of "Have a Good Funeral My Friend" some ten years ago or so which has a couple of great non-album tracks. Probably very difficult to track down anymore, but definitely worth the effort.
If you want to hear more stuff in the Hellbenders vein, check out the Five Outsiders from Sweden. Very similar feel to the Hellbenders. Click on this link for their label's site about them with two downloadable mp3s and some reviews of their one CD, and on this link for their myspace site (where you can hear four songs).
I hope the Hellbenders play again soon - if they do, I'll probably see you there! (I also live in Michigan.).
Ivan
PS And you should DEFINITELY also check out the Volcanos - genius!

Oh, one more recommendation: "For a Few Guitars More" - a surf tribute to the music of Ennio Morricone's spaghetti westerns. This is a truly excellent compilation, and the Hellbenders also make an appearance!

The Volcanos crew released a rare CD called "B-Movie Brain" that contains many cuts from their various alter-ego bands over the years: 3D-Invisibles, Kaos Killers (spy), Hellbenders, Zombie Surfers, etc. etc. I think some of those Hellbenders EP tracks are on there too.
See also our Spaghetti Western thread.
The For a Few Guitars More compilation is great.

Hi Icetech!
Rick here from the Volcanos and the Hellbenders (though you'd know me there as Arch Stanton )
Thanks for the thumbs-up and thanks to everyone else that chimed in! We appreciate the support.
No Hellbenders shows on the horizon now, but when something comes up I will post it here.

I loooove the Hellbenders
Also, for more of the Spaghetti sound, check out The Moe Greene Specials. It's like the best album Morricone never released

Can't say enough good things about The Hellbenders. That CD is just brilliant. The "Big Gun Down" cover is totally stunning. It totally captures the movie score feeling even though it's just 4 guys in a small combo. Excellent. And I got to see them play it live too.

Rick thanks for the reply:) Love your guys stuff.. hoping you come up with another cd of the western flavor... really great stuff..
I actually heard bout the hellbenders cause i was looking for stuff from a band called the hellcasters that i saw at the 4th street fair, had to be like 12 years ago.. (used to be a great fair just ran by a neighborhood here... homeowners sell beer, stage at either end of the street.. just a fyi for non detroiters that didnt know) anyway... and led me to sg101.. great site for a section of music that you don't get much info on usually:)
Anyway thanks again all..

The Hellbenders were regulars at the 4th Street Fair for a number of years. It is a cool street-level party, unlike a lot of the corporate-sponsored summer events.

It could have been.
I know how memories can get fragmented. You just have to delete old data sometimes.
