Rosewood. If you don't take my word on it just look at 99.9% of the pictures of surf musicians. I do love our lead guitarists '57 AVRI Strat which has a maple neck. |

I had a '57 RI Strat with a maple neck that I liked, but I too prefer Rosewood. |

Maple necks with me are very hit and miss - given the choice, I usually prefer rosewood. — |

As Jake says, most surf guitarists prefer rosewood. Bob —Bob |

You know, I was on the DiPinto website last night and some of their guitars have ebony. That was the first I had heard of that being an option. Is that pretty common with Gretsch and Gretsch-like guitars? |

I prefer maple (51 P-Bass, Surfmaster), because of the bright timbre it seems to impart: snappy trebles! It seems like I play the maple necks more often live. That said, I do also use guitars with rosewood (Jazzmaster, Danelectro Hodad, Fernandez fretless)....the rosewood does sound warmer and fatter. I tend to use the rosewood more for recording. -dp |

Rosewood (or Pau Ferro, which I have on a couple of my Gianninnis) http://www.myspace.com/cochabambas |

I'm pretty much a rosewood kinda guy, though I like the maple neck on my P-bass. ~B~ |

Rosewood - it simply looks BETTER. OK, I'm extremely shallow and influenced by surface features, but it's the truth. All my guitars have rosewood fretboards. — |
