Permalink Review of Il Triello in Pipeline Instrumental Review

New Topic

I really should have posted this sooner, but here is Alan Taylor's review of the Il Triello split CD from the most recent edition of Pipeline:

Created as a tribute to that great western The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, the Deep Eddy album Il Triello is a spaghetti western themed compilation featuring new tracks from three different acts.
First up is Mike Brown, aka The Man From Ravcon, who impressed back in Pipelin 87 with his Rides Again CD. Like the others he is well versed in the style and sounds of spaghetti western music and he delivers again here with two moody medium paced twangers and his sorrowful ballad Almeria. The Nematoads have a lighter guitar sound on Deadwood Revisited that gives way to a little distorted lead for impact at the end. Thgey make greater use of mariachi trumpet on their three tracks and make good use of tempo changes and dynamics on The Battle Of Gonzales. Last, but by no means least, come the great Los Fantasticos with their twin guitar punch and fine arrangements. Iron Horses is a searing, soaring piece with some very tasty playing. A Hard Day For The Magnificent 7 is a lazy drifter’s theme, while Last Stand provides a hauntingly moody finale.
Il Triello is one of those “soundtrack for an unmade movie” guitar albums and fans of the spaghetti western style can buy this excellent CD with confidence.

It's still not too late to buy yourself a copy, if you're interested. I have some for anyone in Europe and you can also get copies from Deep Eddy.
