I asked this question to myself about year ago, tested this and that and I can tell you:
Best tremolo pedal ever is the FLINT by strymon! Worth every cent! (And you got great sounding reverb incl.! What else do you need?)
Get it!!!!!!

T-Rex tremster! I like it a lot. It´s a one trick pony, but it´s very good at that one trick Wink
If your not looking for a tap tempo tremolo or fancy square wave sounds this is the one!

I currently have the Catalinbread Semaphore, it sounds amazing, and very versatile. There's a newer version with tap.

Check out this new contraption from Amptweaker - SwirlPool - a combined Tremolo/Vibrato. Looks monstrous (in a good way).
(sorry, couldn't find a single-coil demo yet)

Voodoo Labs tremolo has done right by me. I like its very dynamic volume control, wide range of both speed and intensity, and slope knob - which goes from smooth flutter to hard stutter, but also anywhere in between. I'd like to check out the Semaphor.

Boss TR-2
We had two other units that "disappeared" together two hours before a show, so we ran to Sam Ash and Guitar Center across the street from each other and grabbed one TR-2 at each (to return the next day, of course). They are very plain and add no color to the tone and their speed control goes faster than the one on the DRRI, if I recall. Anyway, the ones I had before were fancy and had all sorts of tone control, but after using these I found I just want a speed and depth control and nothing else. I hate an effect that changes the tone of the line you are playing when activated. It's also bullet-proof. Craigslist for $40,

1 Demeter Tremulator

2 Boss TR-2

I don't consider myself a trem-aficionado, but I was really impressed with the Malekko Trem; I sold my huge Fulltone Supa-Trem almost immediately after getting one. I do really want to try a Flint though; the reverb would really be helpful for those Euro numbers where I don't really need a tank.

The one that turned off and on the trem on my EMC G220 amp.

That amp had the most outrageous trem circut I have ever heard, and I include Magnatone in this boast Smile Loud, clean, made in Cleveland Ohio and heavey as hell. I sent it off for a charity auction for my old guitar teachers med bills.

Those Malekko Trems just sound so good. I don't hear a ton of versitility in them, but for old Fender Onboard style, I have yet to hear a pedal that nails it anywhere close to what the Malekko does.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

I'm very happy with my Keeley modded Boss TR-2 when I don't use onboard.

Greeting, all - my first post here...
I actually prefer my Malekko Omnicron Trem to the onboard trem in either of my (original) BF Fender combos for medium to faster speeds. More "sine wavey" and smoother in/out (and quieter - no background ticking). I preset it for the faster/shallower shimmer and the onboard for the slow/deep pulsing. My only complaint is the speed control knob has a very fast taper in the range I use it the most, so it's not as easy to dial in the speed as on some other units.

+1.

I found a Boss TR2 for next to nothing, and sent it to Robert Keeley for modding. I'm now very happy with the TR2. I can't say that it is as good or better than some of the better pedals mentioned here, but the volume drop problem is solved with Keeley's mod, and it sounds very good to my ears.

The Danelectro one is great, costs about 40 bucks brand new and it even has a built-in boost when the effect is kicked in so no volume drop...

I use a Carl Martin Surf Trem. I like how it sounds.
