Cause people don't like them.
Or, wrongly think they are a surf band.

That's true, I bet there are very few fans of the Ventures on this messageboard. And the very few fans of the Ventures on this messageboard probably think they are a surf band, rightly or wrongly. But whatever the case, the fact that not one participant on this messageboard selected a Ventures' tune as their favorite non-surf intro song is very telling.

I know what it tells me.
Never try to teach a pig to sing.
It wastes your time, and annoys the pig.

Jeff, you have to admit Venture's in space is a pretty solid album. Although I wouldn't say anything they've done is my favorite anything.

"Joy" by Apollo 100. Still makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up when it comes up on the oldies station.

That their favorite Ventures songs are the surf ones?
— That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

late to this one, never noticed it. Roy Buchanan and one of his later tunes,
"Flash Chordin'". don't know how to post a link, if you can find it beware, it's a fine example of what some of ya'll call "wankin'" but I call playing to your potential.

Found a cool Youtube channel (NRRArchive) this week with lots of old perfomances from Dick Clark's show, like these with Duane Eddy:

And for my 100th post on Surf101 something special, my all time hero Link Wray with Rawhide. I wanted to show three versions one from the 50's, one from the 70's and one from the 90's. The last one I couldn't find online, I have it on DVD. So I had to choose a different song from that show. Amazing how this man kept rocking all through his long career... and a big shame he still isn't inducted in the RnR hall of fame!
