So I'm going to a surf concert..... My first, that is, since I began listening to surfmusic back in 1994 - age 14. And I'm 27 now. How is this even possible? Well, when you live in Norway (way inland), theres not that many surfbands. Maybe just Los Plantronics and The Beat Tornados. The concerts in Oslo I usually hear/read about afterwards. Like when Dick Dale was in Oslo this fall - I found out i December.
This is now gonna change. Los Plantronics is playing a student festival a 30 minute drive from where I live. They go on in about 1hour 30 minutes. I'm going down to my car, now. Driving to surf-heaven in the -15C degrees polar night (wow poetic )
This is going to be AWESOME.

Cool Audun (literally). Make sure you tell them what you told us, I'm sure they'd get a kick out of it. Try to see the Beat Tornadoes, I've only heard their recordings, but they kick *ass!

Los Plantronics are pretty good I recall. I've seen them play at least once here in El Stocolmo. Not sure I would call them surf though.

Get ready for more. I noticed Slacktone is going to tour Europe in April, I thought I saw Oslo mentioned. Check their Myspace page.

I'm back! Man, that was cool. Let's review:
Not so cool stuff :
-Only about 50 people showed up
-I was driving so I couldn't drink (cheap tequila)
Cool stuff :
-The good vibes those 50 people brought.
-The drummer played the whole thing standing, wearing a wrestling mask, without his shirt on. He was also the singer during the vocal-tracks.
-Great sound.
-A lot of new tunes from what I could tell. And they kick ass by the way.
-The 4 people who got up on stage and danced like crazy. One of them rocked so hard he spilled his beer all over himself.
-The Ramones instrumental encore.
Great concert. Great evening.
Have to keep a close look for concerts in Oslo from now on (2 hour drive, but hey....). Thanks for the Slacktone tip, Stormtiger. Have to check that out.

Congrats on the first concert AudunK. I only went to my first myself this past summer. In total I've still only been to a slight few, but man I'm desperate for more, because as it turns out live surf is apparently way better. I'm sure you've found that out as well now. Here's to many more shows for you!

There is nothing better than live surf music. Congrats! Now go see those elusive Beat Tornados and give us a show report!

Congrats on your 1st surf show Audun,
you really must make an effort to go see Slacktone, and
any other shows in a 200 K range if you can afford it.
All instro/surf bands need as much support as they can get.
Also try to convert some friends to surf music.
also tell anyone you know that is into surf to come here,
or the German surf site http://www.surfmusic-forum.de/

If Slacktone tune their guitars in this country, I'm there. When ever, where ever.
Also looking out for The Beat Tornados. Too bad their website is down.
Just found out that Los Plantronics is back at the same place this summer. This time I'm bringing my camera, and hoping for more than 50 people

Congrats on your first concert. No longer are you a Surf concert virgin! I saw my first concert at the Los Angeles Forum back in the 80`s Called "The Surf City USA concert" It was the best one ive seen to date. Dick Dale, The Surfaris, The Chantays, The Ventures, and Jan & Dean, all in top form.

All this talk made me realize that I have never seen a surf concert live yet. I play in Urban Surf Kings, but have never seen a surf show. Not because I've been skipping out on them, but because there ain't none here in Nova Scotia. The nearest might be a 2hr plane ride away to Boston or Toronto.

Don't feel bad, the same thing happened to me in Denver. Dick Dale and later Agent Orange, too. It's very upsetting.
A number of people I know fly to the coast or Chicago or something to hear the big bands.
Heck, I was once in Huntington Beach myself and didn't even think to look around ... I did buy a Man .. Or Astroman CD.
