I am so appreciative of this sg 101 resource - the wisdom, experience and advice of those who have contributed to this forum has proved invaluable in helping me approach the task of recording surf rock guitars - currently, i am working on a project with cutback out of ft. lauderdale, who utilize a twin-lead guitar approach - after tracking the entire band with instruments isolated to get solid drum tracks, we are now overdubbing guitars - we decided to overdub both guitars at the same time in order to capture both the energy and sound of a live recording - i have pictured the recording setup below - the plexiglass screen in the middle allows rich and frank to both see and interact with each other as if in a live-playing situation - either can use feedback/change effects if needed because the amps and players are in the same room [actually they are facing their amps] - the close-miked neumann tlm 170 cardioids are very transparent, picking up accurate amp/guitar sounds with literally no bleed between the guitars because the back of both mics are facing away from each other - it also allows the use of room mics in the mix because both guitars are recorded simultaneously - the project is still a work in progress, but i wanted to share what i had learned from you and give something back as well - my sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to the recording corner - hasta - jamiE.
