Have they announced a specific date yet, other than Summer? I heard references to June but have yet to see any official news on the Squier website. I'm going to at least get a Jag. If I can swing it, I'll get a Stang too. —Shawn Martin |

This will be fun. I'll be in for a Jag as well. Feeding Frenzy to follow You're not drunk if you can put your socks on while standing. |

Any specific dates on release? I might cancel my J. Mascis backorder and wiat for one of these guys. |

I have a J Mascis Jazzmaster which I love! Also have a 96 Jag-Stang which is essentially a Mustang with a humbucker in the bridge. So... probably only buying a Jaguar, going for Surf Green or Seafoam, whatever it is? |

jags colour will be surf green and the jazzmaster will be sonic blue. |

I'm looking for one of these to be an Xmas present. By then, they should be easily in stock and I may even be able to find the used Surf Green Jag or Sonic Blue Jazzy that I want |

well i've lurked here for a while, but haven't had a solid solid reason to pots until now. I've been playing for 35+ years which somewhat put me at an odd time for instruments. the late 1970s, chicago and north suburbs.. I was exposed to all kinds of music by my older sibs. My older brother rode that first wave of instrumental and then (like millions of others) brit and garage, etc. by the time i was old enough, surf was relatively dormant and most music i was hearing on the radio was, well.. FM AOR. Late 70s into early 80s new wave. Not that it was bad, but... As a few of you can understand with a bit of generalization, in addition to the Fenders that were in the 60s, the classics by Gretesh and Gibsonand the Teisco, Kay, Kingston, Harmonys.. Early 80s? Dean, Hondo and Strat copies. Solid state amps. In my area, as a kid and as far as your world would extend, you just never saw Jags, Jazz... none of those classics. And if you did, even though it didn't command the vintage price, well i couldn't afford it. of course by the 2000's the world opened up with the internet, prices had long gone up... And sure i could find a vintage guitar, but i couldn't afford that either. I had long been saying that the Squier line should offer the fully loaded jag/jazz/stang/bronco/duo line.. Just as Gibson had with Epiphone (i have the SG-G400 that i love), why couldn't fender come down with a price point and have all the bells and whistles of the originals? But if they are selling all the reissues they want at $1200, why sell 3x as must at a 3rd of the price? Then the 1st run of pawn shops.. closer..then the JM JM.. closer. And i was very tempted.. whelp. that brings us to today. I decided on the white/tort b/c i have always loved that look on fenders. i know i'd kick myself if i didn't get that scheme. I have a Bass VI reissue in SB, so maybe if i were to get a JM, i'd do the burst.. But i'm getting ahead of myself. it appears I'd have to add a mute and we'll see if they've routed for the Trem-Lok. but even so.. i'll be very close to my dream guitar. interesting on the release date. Last april, around april 1, there was a "leak" about the pawn shops i believe. now this year these guitars. It's like free market surveys. They see if people are liking or not liking it. well yeah.. I hope they can keep them in stock!! (forgive me if this has been disucssed in another thread...) |

Great first post, so1om. Welcome aboard. You've come to da right place. As for two of your comments, well there's a LOT of controversy over trem-locks. As for palm-mutes, no one admits to using them and I don't know why; it just seems to be a given that they aren't used. Just individual experience and personal preference I guess. Have fun, and enjoy your new guitar when you get it. My thinking is, if these are for real, colors like surf green will be almost unobtainable, so settling for second or third color choices may be necessary. Who knows? —This is Noel. well i can see their cost savings.. saving time/tool wear on the Trem-Lok routing, the bore for the mute. the misc additional parts for both items. that's a huge savings for things that are relatively inconsequential that most people don't use. It may be a mild deterent to counterfeit guitars as well. I was always disappointed with the black tops, et al. Other than their looks and personality, they're just like the originals! The Trem-Lok on my bass, that makes even less sense (but back in the 60s, all parts and cuts the same.. saved money! that's mass production!). I haven't broken any of those strings, so that really is a novelty. It wasn't made with a mute, but i'm not about to hack into a reissue that's held some value. I understand the necessity of the player specials moving the tailpiece up, but visually it's all squished. so original placement won't bother me. I can tweak and adapt to original placement.... Umm. Mute? Well i had played a reissue jag a couple months ago. While i've always anchored the edge of my palm like everyone else, the idea of raking or swiping across the strings may provide something new. As for things like the truss adjustment location, those little things i can accept that, some make sense...now if only the headstocks matched... |

I got pretty excited about getting one of these Jazzys, but:
I'm not saying they're low quality guitars... Just not THE Jazzy I'm looking for, so I hope when these come out they will drag down the prices of used CIJs and -- who knows -- AVRIs... I somewhat agree with you LVC.. They have a few differences, but we'll see how it all plays out. I wish they had a full complement of colors, but i guess they gotta start someplace. Other's have already posted (like above) that by next year, you should be able to picked one up used. The wood.. hmmm good thought. I wonder how these Duncan p/u will play into it as well. But also.. a good platform for some mods. I think it's good all around. People who prefer the AVRI will head that way, those like me will have their "FINALLY!" moment.. the tinkers will mix and match and mod. With the Squier and the Epiphone lines, entry level will finally have a nearly complete group of classic guitars to chose from without breaking the bank. Sure better than the days of Hondo II and a few others of when i was a kid in the early 80s. |

I looked carefully at the Mustangs. It seems they have bridges with saddles that can be adjusted height-wise, like the Warmoth and Graphtech ones mentioned above, so that could be an option for replacing the Jazz & Jag bridges... If Squier decides to sell them as spare parts, that is. —Old punks never die... They just become surf rockers. |

yeah.. soon everyone will be swapping out parts. I would imagine you could order a bridge, right? i have always been hesitant to mod a guitar. my parents drove it into me, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. i adjust and do all that, but even my squier affinity tele, it was a big step for me to DRILL into a guitar for a vibrato. And here the bigsby cost more than the guitar itself! |
