February Birthdays 
I noticed King Pelican doesn't really get mentioned that much on SG101. I'm assuming that's probably because they're not that well known outside of San Antonio, so here is my short review (I dont normally review music so forgive my simplicity) of King Pelicans EP "The Good, The Bad, And The Reverb."
The EP begins with a great song called "Morocco". A slightly middle eastern sounding track with an occasional Out-Of-Limits nod. Very suave and would not be out of place in a spy movie.
The next track on the EP is called "El Gallo." A spaghetti western style track full of the long drawn out notes and drama that a good western soundtrack displays.
Track 3, "Cricket", has just the beat you would expect from a Texas band. Like a cross between a Buddy Holly song and Americana. Very danceable in my opinion.
Western Satelitte is a really nice song on the slower side. Very smooth tone and playing. A lot of bands have their signature slower songs, but few play them as smoothly as King Pelican.
The EP ends with a rockin' song called Stingray. On the faster side, perfect for a fast drive out on the open road.
I know my review of each song was very short, but hopefully you get a general picture. King Pelican plays with a very traditional tone but does not confine themselves to the typical I IV V structure. An easy and enjoyable listen. If you haven't gotten a copy yet, get one. Its definitely worth seeking and a highlight of the 2012 releases.
