Permalink RICHIE PODOLOR tribute!

The Nematoads recorded Untitled #4 for the tribute. I'll upload it when I can.

3 Balls of Fire recorded Untitled #5 for the tribute and ended up releasing it on their Chrome and Water CD.

Perhaps all of these collected tracks can become a future SG101 sampler.

Richie Podolor ruled! (No, I don't necessarily think he's dead).

The first stuff I heard by him was most likely the great work he did for the Hondells. Too bad there aren't more pics of him around, especially playing an electric guitar! Anyway, here he is on the Surf Route 101 album cover, where he can be seen sitting in the backseat of the car reading a newspaper, haha.

We did "Black Boots And Bikes" for the tribute comp and I remember being quite surprised it wasn't already spoken for. In fact, that was the only tune left together with maybe one or two others. We had just started the band and got on the project really late and I remember we had to record it real quick to meet the deadline.

Good Job Klas, Thanks,
Now, who has most of these bands contacts,
and wants to ask them to upload their songs?

Some of them are gonna be hard to get a hold of.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Most of those are California groups so you might have a better shot than anybody.I'll do my best to get a hold of the bands that you can't Jeff.

Reverb, It's A Way Of Life!

"Beyond the Blue" was Davie Allan's first single release. It came out circa 1964-65.

Good call, Jon! Beyond the Blue is the flipside of Davie Allan's first single War Path, a killer surf instro as well. In Davie's discography it lists the release date as '63.

Great stuff Klas and all. Looking forward to hearing more tracks!

Here's a few more pieces of the puzzle. First, I have to say that I did some serious spelunking and could not find Pollo del Mar's or the Mach IV's songs, but I found some live on KFJC recordings from that era, which will have to do. Amazingly, I did find Shig 33's "Get With It" which I have not heard since we recorded it in 2002. I don't think this is a final mix, but, again, it's all there is. My recollection is that we sent the masters to Mel, why we don't have backups is pretty lame. Anyway, here ya go:
Shig 33- "Get With It"

The Mach IV- "Honda Beach Party"
http://soundcloud.com/polloguitar/honda-beach-party
Pollo Del Mar- "Dark side of the Mushroom"

Monsters From Mars should be uploading their cover of "Put It On" soon! Big Grin
I contacted a few bands on facebook so we'll have to see who all responses to the request.Keep your fingers crossed.
It would be nice if the bands would post at least MP3 formats.I'm wanting to compile all the tracks for my own CD if possible. My love for the great work of Richie Podolor is tremendous.

I'm gonna look for a copy of The Pyronauts doing Weird Wolf and see what I can do! I do remember that we used a "ratcheting socket wrench" as a sound effect.

Who was in Shig 33?

Thanks for remembering these releases Brainpop! Again to note that this wasn't the PDM recording that was going to go on the tribute, I think our recording was much closer to the original, but this version isn't as weird as the version that ended up on "Year of the Rooser".

Funny story about the Chocolate Watchband's version of EXPO 2000, if I remember the details at all correctly. The CW got together for a reunion tour in '03 or so, and learned and played Expo 2000 and a few other songs from their third album for the first time. Podolor and studio musicians wrote and played all the music on that album while the CW was on the road.

Just Shigemi Komiyama, aka Shig 33 (The Shi-tones, Mach IV, Aqua-Velvets, Shig & Buzz, El Destroyo). As with most of his solo projects after Shig and Buzz, he played all the instruments. I remember tracking going very quickly in one day. First he played a shaker (no click track) then a rhythm guitar, then the drums, then bass, and then all the percussion parts, which were mostly featured elements of the drum kit. I remember putting all our car keys on the ride cymbal to get that sizzley sound.
