Insect Surfers need a new guitarist!
Submitted by insectsurfer on October 01, 2011.
Bands
With the departure of esteemed multi-instrumentalist Marty Tippens (who will not be playing live until his Ph.D is completed), the Insect Surfers (Planet Earth's Longest-Running Modern Surf Band) are now on the lookout for a second guitarist. Minimum daily requirements are a sense of energy, humor, and a modicum of instrumental competency. If you're reading this than hopefully you've heard of us or have an idea of what we sound like. influences range from Link Wray, Dick Dale and Davie Allan to Quicksilver and Television. Or from The Ventures and The Belairs to The Ramones, Iggy, and B52s. If you're a surf/instro guitarist (or know somebody who sounds like one) please feel free to send an email to insectsurfers@sbcglobal.net . We're based in the Los Angeles area. Mahalo !

A modicum my ass. More like an upper extremum. Where are the mathematicians when we need them?

I totally would apply for this, except for the whole "modicum of instrumental competency" requirement.
Good luck with the search, Insects.

Does "modicum of instrumental competency" include breaking guitars?

All guitar breakers are welcome,Whorehay!
I just put an ad on Craigslist Los Angeles today. Wish us luck! Hopefully any responders will be into the same kind of music. After years of experience w/auditions, usually the worst are musicians who say 'I'm into ALL kinds of music -i just want to PLAY!'

Maybe JonPaul should take over guitar duties and look for a new bassist?

Whorehay was saying that JonPaul needs to learn the insects songs on guitar, and I need to learn the songs on bass.
I would love to do that,
but I think it would be a real long time for me,
and a bit of time for JP.

You had better get to work BTD, that sweet P-bass of yours needs to be played!

yeah I know,
but I just think those running(not walking) bass lines
in the Insects Music is way over my talent level.

Dude, 15 minutes a day practicing your bass and withing a month you'll nail those lines. It's consistency that makes a good player.

Yeah, you'll be surprised at how quickly you can improve when you jump in the deep end. Who couldn't benefit from more practice?

BTD:
I totally agree with Danny, but I'd recommend 30-45 minutes of practice time each day...you could totally be an Insect bass dude...and JP could get all reverberated on the guitar chordage...

Sure 30 - 45 is better, but as a minimum even 15 minutes will get you a lot of improvement in a month's time. Baby steps DP, baby steps.

Do it, Jeff. They're the reason yu got into surf. How perfect would it be if you could end up playing for them?
Of course, it kinda depends on the rest of the band too. But that would be a cool thing if it worked out.

I didn't know Jonpaul played guitar as well as he does until our Paul Johnson rehearsel friday night. Jonpaul in the traditional Valentie spot and BTD on bass sounds like fun to me...
