Brian...I see what you mean...only a little over 1k downloads of last years comp!! Hmmm, I wonder why? I'll bet if some of us put a link to the previous comps on our MySpace, FaceBook or ReverbNation profiles that might help. There's always been interest in these comps here...what's up? I love those comps, some of the best surf music I have. The guys in our band the Twang Twisters, would enjoy contributing. |

Love downloading them. Yes! —"We're lousy, we can't play. If you wait until you can play, you'll be too old to get up there. We stink, really. But it's great," Johnny Ramone . |

It's not lack of interest by people downloading the comp from archive.org, it is the lack of interest here. And, if I recall correctly, we didn't have a listening party last year because, well, no one was interested. When we started doing this in 2005, MySpace was 2 years old, but I don't think they had widespread success yet. In 2005 it was somewhat hard for Joe Random Bedroom Player to put music on the internet. Now you can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone's MySpace, Facebook, Sound Cloud, Reverb Nation, etc page. I guess the only reason to keep doing the SG101 comp is that it is a nice little source of pride to say "hey look what this community did". I can still get on board with that. I'm just asking because it does put an extra burden on my time, and if no one is really interested then maybe it isn't worth it. But if people are still interested, then that's cool. (It's also interesting that there is a small number of people that contribute to the compilation every single year (and I am grateful) but these people NEVER post in the forums or interact with anyone in any way. I'm not sure how to take that. Are they shy?) Anyway, just trying to gauge the interest and see if this is still relevant and a fun thing to do for everyone. Thank you for your thoughts and keep them coming. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea Last edited: Sep 28, 2011 09:46:01 |

My band would be willing to contribute a track. And I know I'm definitely interested in listening to a new compilation, regardless. |
