The Bomboras played here in Atlanta at The Point. It was in the early days of the X-Rays, my guess is 1997 or 1998. They were wearing the skeleton suits at that show. Dick Dale had performed at The Point on probably his first trip to Atlanta in November of '96 I think. It was a great place to see a band. The X-Rays played there a time or two as well. Hey Woody, do you remember the year? Reverbs, eddie k —Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps? |

We were at The Point with them in 98 and they were wearing what would later become known (unfortunately) the "Charlie Sheen" shirts (paneled bowling shirtd) on that tour, so the skeletons was probably 97. —http://www.satanspilgrims.com |

Well I didn't remember that you guys were the band that had on the freaky suits, but I knew one of the bands did. I do remember though that you guys blew the Bomboras off the stage that night. It was a full blown "take-no-prisoners" set by Das Pilgrims. Pretty impressive set a bit later at the Star Bar too. edddie k —Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. From what I remember The Bomboras were switching it up to three different costumes on that "Head Shrinkin' Fun" Tour.One was the bowling shirt look,Second one was the glowing Mexican Day of the dead with poncho's and sombrero's,and the third was just the glowing skeletons. —Reverb, It's A Way Of Life! I seen pictures before of the Mexican Day of the Dead, but that is so f'in cool!! Now thats one hell of a stage show. I caught them on the Head Shrinking Fun tour and it was matching bowling shirts. Bummer... |

I don't remember the year, but the Volcanos opened for them and they wore the Day of the Dead black light skeleton outfits. It looked great! No go-go dancers, though. |

I saw the Bomboras in DC in the spring or summer of '98, opening for the Cramps. We got the bowling shirts, sadly, but it was still an amazing show! I was completely blown away. I can't help with the original inquiry, but I wanted to mention one incident that stood out. I was taking after the show with a couple of them, hard to remember who, but I think it was Lord Hunt AKA Gregg Hunt, the lead guitarist and Jake the keyboardist. They were just recently signed to Rob Zombie's label, and through that to Geffen. They were doing a lengthy tour with the Cramps, and I asked them how they were able to do that, if they had quit their job, and Gregg said, I remember this very clearly, "yep, no more day jobs for us." And I remember thinking, well, that'll last six months. Even back then, at the very peak of surf's commercial popularity I didn't have much faith that it would last and that it could financially sustain a band (MoAM and Los Straits obviously being two significant exceptions, for many different reasons). And I think that's exactly what happened, Zombie a-Go-Go folded soon after, and shortly afterwards the Bomboras broke up, too. A shame, really. I thought "Head Shrinking Fun" was an astounding album, one of my favorites from the '90s. I wonder if they would have broken up if they hadn't put all their eggs into the Zombie-A-Go-Go/Geffen basket.... —Ivan |

Woody and Eddie: I remember both of those Atlanta shows. Star Bar was muggy beyond belief, and the Point was, well, one of those shows when you've been playing every night for 6 weeks and everything goes right. :). It was interesting which cities were more Bombora fans and which ones where we did better. Maybe it was just random, won't overthink it. http://www.satanspilgrims.com |
