I don't see the need for band members to win anything, we do get paid after all. The issue isn't that a nonplayer won the thing, it's that he was clearly given the message that many people who support this community and this event would love an opportunity to buy the guitar from him and keep it in the family so to speak, and he still opted to sell it to a store. A little thoughtless given this particular set of circumstances, but generally speaking it's his or any other winner's choice. If we limit winners to a smaller pool, far less people will buy tickets.

In his Facebook photo (Jay Marshack) he is holding the guitar. It kinda ticks me off, but he is entitled to do what he wants.
The goal is to obviously to provide as much money as possible for a good cause. As disappointed as I am in Jay's decision to sell the guitar to a music store, it is his right to do so. I'm far more disappointed that more tickets weren't sold.

Well, then it sounds more a matter of disappointment with a particular decision made by a particular winner, rather than any issue with the format, etc., and I don't really see what you can do, other than commiserate...

After reading all these posts, I concur with what everyone has said, absolutely! But I won't repeat it all. I too was very disappointed, almost livid to a point. I myself bought 3 raffle tickets in hopes that in small miracle, I would win the guitar (one of these days I'll get a jazzmaster), but that's the odds of a raffle. But many kudos should go to Coltsurf who generously donated the guitar for the raffle. That was very nice of him. Also, the most important aspect is helping the convention to make as much money as possible for the bands. But it dawned on me that as a community here on SG101, it shows how much we all come together and respect not only each other, but the instrument that has taken over our lives...yes the guitar gents! Big thanks to Jeff for his hard work, dedication and extending the raffle to those who couldn't be there at the convention! have a great weekend everyone!

I say we leave a flaming paper bag full of dog poop outside his front door & ring the bell.

I was talking with Mr. Jay today.
He wants to go to the Baja Marty Benefit show,
but is afraid he will get his ass kicked.
I told he should be fine.

Does he still have the pic of him with the guitar as his profile pic?

If that was the case maybe items with sentimental value could be auctioned off instead.

Thats right! GO DOYERS!!!
Maybe we can auction off a Giants jersey and some Dodger tickets and rig it so he wins. But then he'd probably sell them like he did the JM and then some other poor shmoe would get beat instead. Nevermind.
(jk about the whole beating thing. he did what he wanted to do with his own property. i disagree with what he did but I wont beat him. Unless he wears a Giants jersey...)

The implications of violent action are all completely in jest, I'm sure.

I find it appalling that someone could have so little class. He owns it so he is free to do what he wants, however, to dispose of the instrument in such an indiscreet manner is a total insult. It also discourages people from making such generous donations in the future. It really rubs me the wrong way. Hell, it I would have known I would have bought it from the guy.

I find this joking about Dodgers-Giants violence as offensive as what Jay did with the Jazzmaster. There's a guy who has been in a coma for months. Jokes about the situation are appallingly insensitive. (I would feel the same way if it was a Dodger fan in the coma).

I don't really understand why people find jokes offensive. There is making light of a situation to point out the insanity of the subject, and then there is condoning or carrying out the action of the subject. That is what is offensive. A joke is neither condoning or doing.
In the Giants-Dodgers situation, how ridiculous is that whole situation? Should never even cross the minds of anybody ever to commit violence against others, especially over sports. These people are so stupid it is hilarious. How disgusting humans are is hilarious, and that is what people joke about.
