Permalink 2x15 for Dual Showman???

New Topic

So, I've been playing out of a late 70's SF Dual Showman Reverb for a couple years now , the 135w model (I know these are pretty undesirable, but its what I'm workin with right now! And hey, it could be worse :-p ).

But I'm using it with a 2x12 cab with celestion vintage 30s made by the Geezer sound company, 'cause it's all I ever had, and the impedence is right (4 ohms, I wired it up for an SS Acoustic 150 head I used to use (lol)).

I'm starting to think of maybe changing the cab for a 2x15. What would this do for the sound of the amp, say I was going for Weber Californias? Would a 2x15 get closer to THE TONE with the Dual Showman?

Also, I don't see the vintage cabs for sale often, or at good prices (I'm in NYC). Do you guys think getting a cheap 2x15 bass cab secondhand and installing aforementioned speakers would work? Or is that a stoopid idea, and would somehow sound atrocious?

Thanks!
