Just a place holder. I'm sure Mom would have gotten around to it sooner or later.

I've heard some, IMO, real garbage at some surf places. Some of it was played by bands who claimed to be "surf." —Radio Free Bakersfield--60 Minutes of TWANG, CRUNCH, OOMPH. |

I know what you mean. A surf band that doesn't play some off-the-wall odd-ballities is probably lacking in imagination and the true spirit of the thing. But one that doesn't play anything else is probably confused about what they are doing. It would be invidious to name examples. Although I honestly came up with this as a play of the name of Mom's long-running and popular thread Hearing Surf Music in Unexpected Places, I do think there might be a useful function for it. A lot of the traffic I see on the forum falls under this heading. Actually, some of it is mine, since I tend to be interested in instrumental music generally. Anyway, I see this topic going two different ways, one being "how nice that somebody did a surf version of X" and the other being "unfortunately X was included somewhere." The business about the absence of pervasive surf music on Southeastern and many other beaches might belong here, too. Along those lines, Moon Over Marin (several places): Good |

The Turbo AC's doing the song Apache (on the Autoimatic album ). Outside of the question of weither its a surf song or not it is a quentissental instrumental. Quite suprised me when I heardit the first time. —I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... |

So I was just on vacation in Delhi, and we ended up in a much nicer hotel than I'm used to staying in (oh damn). The hotel eatery had their muzak play list, that from what I could tell was very capable Indian musicians cranking various genres of music - INCLUDING SURF! Albeit with a very tasting Indian percussion track. Didn't recognize the song but it was tasty and whoever was playing was playing for reals, not just imitative. Made my day! mj —mj

I had an experience yesterday that I think qualifies for this thread. I took the family to the annual Whale of a Day festival at Point Vicente. It's an all day fair with food, live music, games for the kids, and many educational displays about the ocean, conservation, and marine life (particularly whales). The setting is right on the cliff overlooking the Pacific and Catalina Island. |

Nope it wasn't that one but I'm sure they must've played it after I left! I googled some of the lyrics I could remember and I found it - |
