Hey guys,
I'm coming here needing some help.
I've got a couple of weber speakers that I need to wire to my '64 tremolux. I don't have a terminal cup in my cab, so I need to directly wire the speakers to the amp via the 1/4 inch jack. I have a 6 foot speaker cable to do the wiring but being a noob to this I have questions.
Inside the speaker cable there should be 2 wires, yes? And one of them should be positive and one should be negative? Using these wires I'll have to solder them to my speakers and match the positive/negative. I understand the parallel wiring process but I'm confused about how to tell the difference between positive/negative aspects.
I shoul just be able to cut open the cable and use the wire for what I need, right? A brief guide to what I'll have to do would be great. I figured you guys could help since you're always dealing with old cabs and speakers. Thanks!

Make sure both speakers are wired to have the same polarity. You can use a AAA battery and put it across the wires and make sure both speakers either flex out or flex in... as long as they do it in unison you are fine. Having one go in while the other goes out would be bad; that would make your speakers out of phase and they would tend to cancel each other out.

I will make sure to do that. Ive also heard that the speaker wires have no polarity, and that either wire can be used for positive/negative. Could you clear that up for me?

That's correct, the wire itself is just copper, no polarity preference.

The tip of the plug is the positive, the sleeve is negative. The positive of the plug goes to the positive of the first speaker, then another wire goes from that speaker positive to the other speaker positive. repeat for the negative wire.
If you are using two 8 ohm speakers, this gives you a 4 ohm load wired this way, which should be correct for your Tremolux.

Thank you both for the replies. It makes much more sense to me now. Both speakers are 8 ohms. I just have one last question. How do I identify which wire leads from the sleeve and which one leads from the tip?

Do you have a multimeter? You can check the conductance with a multimeter. Use the setting where the meter beeps if there is conductance - hold one on the tip, the other on one of the wires. if it beeps, its the right wire.
Otherwise, can you remove a cover from the 1/4" plug and see which is which?
