I recently bought a 1965 Bandmaster and was wondering if anyone can refer me to a good amp tech in the Boston / Providence area to change my caps, bias new tubes, etc. I'm really looking forward to this amp, and I want to make it cherry. I'll appreciate any info....thanks!

Bong-O,
to the SG101 Forums!
I gotta tell ya, until your request, I wasn't aware of the absolute vacuum in amp tech listings here on the web! But I did find one place that's not too far from you, The Ampworks (413-323-0666). About 90 minutes west of Boston on Rt 202, in Belchertown.
Be prepared, you may get recommendations to ship your new baby to other parts of the country. Some amp techs are famous and have world-wide clienteles, others are more local, but no less capable. But before you do that, you might consider asking the folks at NESMA. Their website is bereft of tech links, but at least they are local to you, so you might have some luck with emailing them, who knows?

As you read in the previous post, you're gonna get some out of area recomendations....here's the first.
Daves Sound
622 Rt 10 W
Whippany, NJ

I've been using Dave to take care of my Fender amps and all my guitars for over 20 years. He'll always take the time to listen to you and your wants, and will ASK you what you want your amp to sound like. His guitar tech Bill is also top notch. They are an authorized Fender and Gibson service center and have years of good reputaion to back them up.
If you can find someone closer that's great, but if not Dave will always do the job right...the first time.

Thanks guys!
Hoffmanamps.com led me to a serviceman who then led me to http://aga.rru.com/ . Seems to be a few good starting points.
Although I'd love to have the work done by a referal that someone has used (like your guy in NJ) it would require sending it and I'd like to avoid that. Good techs are out there, just gotta find the right one!
I've heard of the guy in Beltchertown (used to live near there) but I'm hoping to find someone closer. We east coasters aren't used to driving great distances like you folks in the big states (I'm in Rhode Island, our Nations smallest!).
I am so in love with this amp - not sure I'll be able to risk using it too many places, it's my only pre-CBS piece of Fenderdom. Fortunately I have a modern Concert Reverb and a reissue tank I can always trust for the holy sound.........
Anyone know a safe way to clean vintage grill cloth? I like the golden patina it has, but I'd clean it up a bit if there is a safe way.

Dude, Bong-O, I grew up in Warwick!! I'm a Red Fro now..but it's always cool to hear from another Islander...Man, sometimes I really miss those grey skies..."Memories"... People down here just don't get it unless they've lived up there...
Btw, good luck with your amp, I wish I could help more...

Ace,
Cool! I live in Pawtuxet Village on the harbor..... Love this place, especially now that spring has sprung.
But your a lucky b*stard living in SW Fla. now! Life's a beach year round! How's the surf music scene down there?
BTW, this amp I'm talking about (the Bandmaster) is from Largo, FL. They keep their amps as nice as their cars down there!
