Permalink Gretsch Astro Jet

Has anyone played one? How would you describe it's tone? Do the pickups have the clang and twang of a typical Gretsch?

I've nearly bought one on several occasions--ain't they the coolest lookin' things? I luv the two-tone paint job! The Super Trons have a little more flat of a response than the Filter Trons do and are a bit cleaner too, but if you goose the treble on your amp it'll get you in the ballpark. Not too much though--they can also sound glassy if you're not too careful.

The biggest thing to watch on Astro-Jets is that friggin' Burns vibrato. Of the three I've played, only one of 'em would stay in tune. Perhaps a proper setup would've cured the other too of their tuning issues, but I dunno. At any rate, if you're shopping for one, I'd try it before I bought it.

This is not "Astro-Jet" based.....but.....since you mentioned "Burns" vibratos, I must add that EVERY guitar I played with em' (yep, all brands) would NOT stay in tune no matter what I did....they LOOK beautiful, but I tried an CAR Eastwood Sidejack with a Burns vibrato for a 1/2 hour just WANTING it to work....but no dice. This is not to say all Burns vibratos are bad, but I havn't found a good one yet....maybe they are out there tho'.

Those Burns Vibratos are notorius for tuning instability. Eastwood used them for one year on the Sidejack before moving to the now standard Jazzmaster style for this exact reason.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

I found a Astro Jet online in Wisconsin for what looked like a nice price but there has been a headstock repair.

I do like looking at that guitar. But I'm pretty far from Wisconsin.

Kill Baby.. do you have a Eastwood endorsement? You should. You keep plugging those guys.

KBK is a happy Eastwood Sidejack user, and likes to talk about--and sometimes defend--his axe of choice. If you want someone who actually _has _an Eastwood endorsement, it would be me--Eastwood sponsored the big instrumental music festival I had this year.

Which brings up a thought: Maybe between the two of us, we could convince Michael Robinson at Eastwood to make an Astro-Jet reissue--one that stays in tune? Wink
