Now I__ have a question...does anyone here have experience with the Fender "Twin Amp?" Looks like a blackface Fender Twin Reverb with way too many controls. I am thinking it is a "high gain" amp, but would appreciate hearing praises, negatives, any comments. Thanks, gentlemen! Huh? Oh yeah, I figured its really LOUD! Reviving this thread as there is one for sale for a good price in my area. I need another amp like I need a hole in the head, but you know how it is... This amp's details are easy to find, but I'd like to hear from anybody who has some experience with it. For reference (as there are several versions of the "Twin Amp") 2 channels (clean & drive) Funny detail: the tremolo is correctly labelled under that name on the footswitch (not "vibrato").
I remember this amp being a good 25% more expensive than the TRRI in the early 2000s. I must say the modern features (FX loop and 1/4 power switch) look interesting, and in the YouTube demos I've watched the clean channel sounds pretty nice. But it seems to me you don't see many of these amps around, even though they're quite recent. I'd love to hear what sg101 users familiar with this amp think about it. —Old punks never die... I'm using one in this video. It was put into a separate head and 2x12 cabinet, but it's the Twin model you're asking about. It can get extremely loud, more so than a regular Twin Reverb. It sounded good, but didn't have quite the Fender sparkle of the other Twin Reverb models. |

Thanks, fenderfan. I watched the video you linked to and a few more from the same show, and that Twin sounds pretty nice to my ears. Great playing too! One more question, you said this Twin could get very loud, and at 100 Fender watts that's to be expected, but did you find the 1/4 power setting useful? I know on my Fender 75 the low power switch doesn't reduce output volume much, but very significantly lowers the breakup point instead. Also, I've read the 1/4 power setting dramatically affects the tremolo's intensity... Did you notice that? —Old punks never die... They just become surf rockers. |

Thanks! And, I did not use that 1/4 switch. I just thought I would try to control things from the amp and guitar volume knobs. |

I would say something about the sound except that when I had one, it was plagued with problems and was always in and out of the shop but I may have gotten a lemon. Just from my experience, I'd say you'd be better off with the TRRI, as most folks I've known with this amp have had good experiences with theirs. —The Squares - 1995-2002 |

Thanks for the heads-up. I couldn't make up my mind and the amp sold to someone else anyway. It was about half what TRRIs usually go for in these parts... exceptionally (and perhaps suspiciously, in light of what Chadillac said) cheap for a Fender amp. —Old punks never die...
