YMMV.
I agree. It's completely wrong to call this a Jag.
This is not my cup of tea either... F and S holes just don't look good at all on Jags, JM's, Strats or even Teles IMHO. If I want that, I'll buy an archtop.

Yeah its just so many fancy holes in the body. (Whereas on an archtop, violin, cello etc, those holes actually function to increase the resonance of the bridge, by contrast on thinline geetars, they're more like wannabe holes)

I think it's kinda interesting. I wouldn't run out and buy one, but it's still interesting.
At least it's more interesting than all the hum bucker type jaguar variations that have been coming out lately.

F-holes on Strats, Teles, Jags are basically for visuals. I had a red sparkle ASAT thinline with f-holes and, while it was a gorgeous guitar, I got it hoping that it would have a somewhat reduced weight (G&Ls are generally heavier than normal Teles I've played). It was still pretty dang heavy

I have the thin line jaguar and it is significantly lighter in weight than my other jaguars.

I think they're neat. Of course, I also think Coronados are neat, so maybe I'm not the best to judge.

It felt weird. Sits/hangs different, and the neck is WAY fatter than my other Jag, or any of my other axes for that matter. The vibe spring felt weak, and the stock setup from PGS needed some attention.
Unplugged, it sounded more acousticky to me, duh, not much, but enough that I liked it.
Plugged in, it sounded, well, like a Jaguar. A reissue, MIJ Jaguar, I guess, but still a Jaguar. Clean, it had a bit more box to it, more mid-range. I didn't run it through any effects.
I'm having a Mastery Bridge installed, a Duncan reissue JM p/up at the bridge, and some other things changed, because I'm fussy like that.

If that's your first Mastery, I think you'll like it. I just threw one on a Jagmarr a couple of weeks back, and despite not being able to get perfect intonation with wound .10's, I love the narrower spacing, the sustain, and to me it looks really sharp. (Maybe even on a thin line! )

Since someone mentioned it earlier, have any of you ever played one of the old Charvel Surfcasters with the lipstick pickups? Thoughts?

Former landlord's boyfriend had one. Visually, I found it not my cup of tea, and what I heard him play on it pretty much killed any desire for further investigation.

If anybody actually likes one of these monstrosities, you may be interested to know that the new Musician's Friend flier has them discounted quite steeply - you can buy them new for $900 (sunburst and black), from the regular price of $1500 (list $2150). I don't see any mention of it on their website yet, but maybe you can call them and get the price. Check it out.

hi!
If anybody actually likes one of these monstrosities,
well I kinda like it, despite the fact that I do - in general - despise Fender Guitars ;) . So after teaching a bunch of medical students statistics - which is part of my job but became a monstrous task since one of my colleagues also teaching the course fell ill - i finally got some solatium from my university and ... well, I gave it a try.
As I don't care too much about Fenders and Jags, I do not have a problem with the shape, and I am used to semiacoustics (well, the thinline is actually a chambered guitar). And it is pretty ...
image
what is kind of idiotic is that a guitar in this price range comes with the original bridge (which is simply crap, fortunately ralf kilauea had a mastery lying around in the basement) and with the original position of the sscrew for neck adjustment. therefore the neck cannot be adjuted without removing it!!!
... and I think that the pickups are crappy ...
... but - I still like this monstrosity
yours
