Great story. Who wins? We do.

Just to hear the difference, I occasionally pull out my Les Paul lawsuit clone with vintage Duncan '59s and play Pipeline or something. No matter what I do to either the guitar's settings or the amp's, I can't reproduce the right sound that comes so naturally from my Strat.

Don't sweat it Noel-no one else can either!
I am good friends with a hot Blues player, and when he comes to our gigs I have him come up and play "Rawhide" or "Can't Judge a Book". When I go to his, he always has me play "Pipeline"-on his Les Paul. Sounds like crap to me, but people always tell me it sounds "just like the record".

Isn't it great that there are an infinite variety of sounds these guitars can produce when connected to compatible amps? Then there's the whole ES-335 versus Country Gentleman thing.

So many guitars, so little time.

Interesting but unless I missed it there was never a mention of the different neck scales, for me a key difference between Les Paul and Stratocaster.
