Permalink Greatest Opening Tracks On Any Surf Album

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 3 Next

I thought I'd menton a couple of my favorite opening tracks.

The Penetrators- Checkpoint Echo
The Space Cossacks- Exolumina

What are your guy's favorite openers?

The Ghastly Ones - Ghastly Stomp
Eddie & The Showmen - Toes On The Nose
Reluctant Aquanauts - High Voltage

The Red Scare - The Infrareds

Nebula One - The Nebulas

Mavericks - The Woodies

Exactly what I came in here to say

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

Trying to keep a balance between the best opener in its entirety and best opening measures I've got (in no particular order):

Pull of the Moon - At the Haunted House
Nebula One - Nebula One
Surf Expess - Surf Attack
Annabelle Lee > Red Asphalt - Year of the Rooster
Sun and Sand > Sandstorm - Sandstorm

Pull of the Moon is crazy, I love the opening countdown on Nebula One, love the big opening of Surf Express, the opening feedback on Annabelle Lee is gorgeous spooky, and Sandstorm kicks ass.

Honorable mention: I love the segway between the opening tracks of the Surf Coasters' "Easter" from the slow hypnotics of "How are you Doing?" to the jarring organ on "Midnight Trooper." I always cringe, and then grin at that one.

Dick Dale - "Surf Beat"
Jim Messina & the Jesters - "The Breeze & I"
Surf Coasters - "Intruder" (on the live one)
Beat Tornados - "Nokken Rising"
Satan's Pilgrims - "Badge Of Honor"

-Warren

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

What that guy said. Smile

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

The Surfdusters -- Death Trap
Slacktone -- Coffin Closer
Dick Dale -- Scalped
Dick Dale -- Nitro
The Fathoms -- Fathomless
The Blue Stingrays -- Monsoon
The Atlantics -- Flight of the Surf Guitar
Jon & The Nightriders -- Moving Target
Satan's Pilgrims -- Badge of Honor
The Surf Kings -- Hammerhead
Los Straitjackets -- Squid
The Treblemakers -- Waiting for the Apocalypse
The Sandals -- Wingnuts Theme

I probably forgot a few but it would make a killer compilation. If I was absolute ruler of the universe, this must be played in all weight rooms and fitness centers.... who am I kidding? I could probably try to require it anywhere.

And how could I forget

The Ultras -- Utra Sludge o Phonic (or whatever the opening track is on "We Love You and You Love Us") Groovy Thumbs Up Rock

Volcanos - Finish Line Fever
Langhorns - Tierra del Fuego
Lively Ones - High Tide

The Bomboras - "Land of the One Percenters"
The Phantom Surfers - "I Know it When I Hear it"
The Phantom Surfers - "Quality Statement"
The Treblemakers - "Waiting for the Apocalypse"
The Sir Finks - "Weird Beard"

Wooza, I like your choices. When I first heard the Madeira's CD,
that opening absolutely floored me. "Sun & Sand" is the perfect
set-up for "Sandstorm". I'd sub "Coffin Closer" from "Into the Blue
Sparkle" by Slacktone, for "Pull of the Moon". I love "Pull of the
Moon", but hate all that howling and yelling at the beginning. Shocked

Thanks RR. Coffin Closer is definitely another worthy contender, and I can see why Pull of the the Moon might get some passes from people. I see where you're coming from Mr. Reverb (Bob). I happen to like the opening insanity of the Haunted House version. The song as a whole is epic, and I personally dig the opening "Desperately seeking Mandy, Brandy, Amber and Sam" stuff. It sets a nice "what the hell is happening?" vibe before the song starts and you then trip waay out.

And if we get to count compilations, my favorite comp opener has gotta be Slacktone's version of Miserlou on the KFJC "Gnarly Reef" fundraiser. I have heard no bigger opening to any song. Shocked Twisted Evil

The Red Scare - The Infrareds
