I just scored a VT40 and I absolutely love it! I'm a huge qotsa fan, and it does that sound well, as I hoped. It surprised me how good it is for surf though! At lower volumes, I can get great MoAM? tones. The EQ is insanely versatile and the reverb is even a little drippy, though its definitely different than Fender reverb. Overall, its an incredible amp for me. Great for when I want to get a more gritty sound than my Twin has.

I got a 'reissue' Super Rocket a couple years ago, which is really just a Twin copy. In fact, there was never an original Super Rocket! Great sounding amp, but i gave it too my brother and got a real Twin.

Hello Axxa...if you go to the Downloads section, in the Gear Samples category, our original "Midnight Surf" was recorded using a 60s Ampeg Reverberocket. And congratulations on your acquisition.

here we go again, found another GeminiII , now I have heard 2 of these and dang these are so nice ! It can even do a Vox AC30 imitation thats sounds more like a real AC30 than most AC30s .poeple be on the lookout , paid 150.00 for this one (not for sale promised to a friend}

Bought a 1959 Ampeg Rocket R-12 and this is in my top favorites now. I’ve had a Gemini, and a Mercury before and missed having an Ampeg (those were great amps as well). This Rocket is something special, and somewhat rare as I can’t imagine there are many floating around (early model). Navy random flair tolex with sparkles, gray grill cloth with Jackson Pollock paint swirls (mid century goodness), chrome panel with Guitar, Accordion, and Mike inputs. I really like the Accordion one, nice clarity and balanced tone. And the tremolo is one of the best I’ve heard. All original, and original Jensen 12” AlNiCo speaker (re-coned), must be about 15 watts. Can get loud but retains a lot of headroom. Heard people call it a tweed deluxe circuit, so I can see similarities in tone, but it doesn’t overdrive easily (if at all, fine by me) and can get very bright and clean. I think this is great as it offers the classic late 50s tone (different than a blackface) but not a dirty sounding amp. Very beautiful, round, full tone that fills the room. With my 50s strat (59 reissue pickups) it is heaven. Tremolo can do the Rumble thing as well. A mid century modern masterpiece. Bought the Ampeg “Story Behind the Sound” book and that is one of the most fun books to read as well, definitely recommend picking it up. Great photos and history. I just cannot get over the sound from this amp. You get the best of 50s responsive, round amp tones with the headroom and brightness of 60s amps. Blew me out of the water, as I wasn’t expecting it to be this good, and versatile. Tone knob goes from dark and jazzy to bright and cutting. A masterpiece of an amp. I definitely see more Ampegs in my future, maybe an early 60s Reverberocket next. Ampegs are just great, quality amps.

I’ve had a slew of them. I used to totally be an amped guy. I had a few of the really small checkered ones from the 60s. I had a really cool ptp hand wired reissue. And I had a super duper rare 212 model called a rhapsody (so rare that I couldn’t find anyone to get it working correctly as it used a lot of out of production tubes and had a bizarre design). I didn’t play surf at the time, so I can’t say how they’d work for that. Fine, I’m sure. They used to be around all over the place for dirt cheap. I thought about getting back into them. But it seems the prices have gone up quite a bit.
