Does anyone have a link to some tabs for Haulin Hearse by The Ghastly Ones. I need to print them out to give to my rhythm player.

I'm 90% sure the chords during the main section are A G A but my ear is admittedly terrible so take it with sufficient grains of salt. This is the way I play it, it's one of my favorites from the band.

This is awesome. Thank you all for your help on this. We may be adding this to our set very soon. There are some ideas floating around for an arrangement that will really make this our own when we play it.

No disrespect, but if you want to rearrange and make the song your own, why not just choose 4 other chords and make your own song? I've found from my own experience that the energy spent learning covers would have been better spent working on original stuff. You'll be that much further ahead when it comes time to record. $.02

For what it is worth, we are an original band but enjoy throwing our own take on a cover or two in here and there. Even more so, the situation has happened before where a band that we were playing with has dropped off of the bill at the last minute, putting us into a position to need a second set. Considering we have only been going strong since last summer, the notion of two sets of original material, without repeating anything, is a bit unrealistic...unless we throw together a set of subpar original material and that seems like even more of a waste of our time.

I just realized that my post sounded snippy...Thank you for your advice. Honestly, we are not the kind of band, nor have I ever been one to be able to just pick 4 chords and create a song. I suppose I could do it but I have never been happy with the final product when taking this route. The songs for our band happen slowly, but we are always satisfied when they come. As far as our approach, when the right melody or riff comes, the songs fall together. But, they are never forced.

Playing a nice cover here and there is a lot of fun though. It is also a way to learn new techniques and progressions that may evolve into part of our own compositions in the future.

That's valid enough. A few covers are fine of course. Just hate to see bands trapped by having too many good covers overshadowing their originals. I'm very happy to see young bands like yourselves claiming your own place in the genre and helping push it forward.

Thank you, Danny. Yes, if you see us, our set will be 95-100% original material. I do agree with you for the most part. Sitting around learning other people's material, depending on what your goals for your band, can be a terrible waste of time.

Thank you for the compliment as well. We are working very hard to carve out a place for ourselves. Whether that place is within the surf genre or outside of it is for the audience to decide. We are proud of what we do and really hope that the crowds continue to enjoy it and get bigger.

This is great. I've been wanting to learn this one for a long time. Here a little touch up I did to Garret's. Even your bass player should be able to follow this. Razz

Intro--
muted Am 4 measures

Single note descend a/c/b/a# X8

Verse:
Am/Em/G/Am X2
Gm/C#m/C
C/B/A#/Am (hold Am 4 measures)

verse:

Am/Em/G/Am X2
Gm/C#m/C
C/B/A#/Am (hold Am 4 measures)

Descending A/C/B/A# X8

Gm/C#m/c
C/B/A#/Am
C/B/A#/Am
C/B/Am/Gm
C/B/A/Am

C/B/A#/Am (Solo starts here)
C/B/A#/Am
C/B/Am/Gm
C/B/A/Am

C/B/A#/Am
C/B/A#/Am
C/B/Am/Gm
C/B/A/Am

C/B/A/Am
drum break 3 measures, kick reverb

Descending A/C/B/A# X4 (only 4 on the last time)

verse:

Am/Em/G/Am x4 (4 times on the last one)
Gm/C#m/C
C/B/A#/Am

This is nice...as it turns out, the only part I was not getting was the Gm/C#m/C part. It is strange that, for some reason, those chords were just not coming to me.

Sweet! I'll be learning this one soon. Thanks guys!

I had trouble with the same part but had the rest of the song figured out. Chord progressions for me either click into place or they don't, regardless of how simple they may be. It's almost like it happens by accident, but it either "accidentally" happens right away or I'll waste hours sitting around playing with different chords and never really picking up on the right one (even if I'm playing it). This is a cool song and one of my faves.

It wasn't until I wrote that all out that I realized I had been playing it wrong. As someone who used to listen to tons of Oingo Boingo and Slayer I figure I'd be able to recognize tritones pretty easily but I guess not. Oh well Smile

At any rate, this thread has convinced me to start transcribing more songs so I can understand them a little better.

Interestng combo! hahaha. I LOVE Boingo. I wish Danny Elfman would get his head out of his butt and do another Halloween show/tour with the band. Halloween just isnt the same without them Sad

My method of finding chords is to listen to the bass, it's almost always playing the root in surf music.

Yes, if you do not have perfect pitch, it is one of the best methods. Thumbs Up

interesting,
I too am a fan of Oingo Boingo and Slayer.

I wish that Danny would do some music with Boingo again,
but I highly doubt it will happen.

Do you guys know about the local Boingo tribute band,
called "Dead Mans Party"?

I haven't seen them yet.
but I heard they are good,
and sometimes Johnny Vatos,
and John Avila will show up and play some songs with them.
