Permalink NEW Hallmarks on ebay

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 Next

Sadly, I do not have the money on hand for either of these. However, the 60 custom is actually a deal, considering it comes with the case and shipping for the listed price, which is the same as the website, sans shipping or case. Hopefully someone on here will snatch one or both of these up.

The price of the 60 is exactly what it costs new from Bob Shade... at least the last time I checked (over a year ago). I think the 59 is a bit of a deal though, I thought those went for close to $1500 new.

The '59s are/were $1500 with the handmade aluminum tailpiece/trem assembly. The one on ebay shows the Shade designed tailpiece and bridge, same as the '60. Bob said making those aluminum vintage style assemblies were labor intensive, and once they were sold, that was it.

Yes, it is the exact same price, but ordering them from Bob Shade, they do not include the case or shipping.

They come with cases from Hallmark, but shipping is extra.

The '59 was $1500 this morning - I see it's down to $1200 now. It sure is a looker.

No, the 59 comes with a case from Hallmark. The 60, according to their website, does not come with one and is a seperate purchase.

Either way, you don't see these up on ebay very often. I can honestly say that I prefer the shade tremolo on the 59 when compared to the hand cast aluminum one that is listed on the website.

The 60 Custom comes with a case- but he doesn't make that very clear on the current page. Or, I should say they did when I ordered one. For $999, it had better come with one.

He sells a bunch of the cases separately to Mosrite owners, since its one of the few cases that fits a Ventures style Mosrite well.

Here is my new black 59 Custom. It is a beautiful guitar, and one of the nicest I've ever played. My luthier was very impressed with the quality...commenting on all the improvements over a Mosrite. Came with a beautiful case. Bob hooked a brother up!

I did not realize that the 59s came in any other color than sunburst. That is a beautiful instrument. Everything I know about the Hallmark guitars points to them being amazingly good instruments. With that said, I would much rather spend my money on one than on the overpriced current Mosrite productions that are nothing more than people trying to cash in on the legacy.

I called Bob and said I really wanted a black 60 custom. He said not available, but that he had a black 59 Custom with the Shade tailpiece. I said, "sold!". I did much research. Learned the complete convoluted f&%k'd up history of Mosrite...to the best of my ability. Talked to alot of people and experts. Hallmark was clearly the best value by far.

for those prices I think you are better off saving a little more and getting the real deal or at least wait patiently for a Japanese Mosrite to pop up on ebay.

^ That. They do seem to be a good value; Bob is a stand up guy and seems to make a good product (I've never played one, but have heard good things). However, if you do want it to say "Mosrite" across the headstock (either for vanity or resale purposes), a few of us here are fans of the Mosrite Excellent, a MIJ clone that would cost considerably less than those Fillmore ones you're referring to. I got mine used for less than a new Hallmark, and the quality is pretty good (some have said damn close to a real Mosrite, though I can't compare that either). They can still be found on ebay occasionally if you look around.

Honestly, unless it was given to me, I don't think I want a genuine Mosrite. They sound amazing but, to my experience, Hallmark has gotten as accurate on the tone as humanly possible and improved on the issue of the narrow nut width, thus making them much easier to play. Plus, you don't have to pay rediculous collector prices or pay for a 'name only' product that is being produced long after Semi passed.

And I will stand by the statement that Hallmarks are no less Mosrites than any of the actual 'mosrites' currently being produced.

I won't argue any of that, with the exception of the nut width comment... my fake Mosrite has the traditional narrow style, and this doesn't feel "broken" to me or feel in need of improvement at all. Good enough for Nokie, Terry, Yuzo, and a slew of other great guitarists, good enough for me. ;) I do know that some actual Mosrite users have had more of a problem with the speed frets than the nut widths, but to each their own I guess. Anyway, since we've all got a love for Mosrite-ish instruments, here's my MIJ one to compare/contrast. The case and locking bridge are from Hallmark (I do like his work, just to reiterate that):

BTW, that should be the exact same case that comes with the '60, which is included in the $999 price tag, but just ask Bob in case that's changed.

Really weak complaint in my books, if you prefer a wider width, that is a personal choice, but to slate the guitar because of this issue is kind of ridiculous. Many stringed instruments have a thinner nut width. One says they have fingers too large for a Mosrite, perhaps untrained/clumsy fingers?

Totally agree. I could maybe even see the argument for Mosrite necks being too thin (not "chunky" enough) if your hands are on the large side, but realistically a slightly narrower nut probably takes about ten minutes of practice to get used to. Kind of a weak selling point, much like the "jumbo fret".

One advantage to the wider nut width in relation to my playing is that I switch guitars and it provides less, however minute, muscle confusion. Frankly, the longer I play one particular guitar, the more accustom to it's little quirks and then when I switch, I have to start all over again.

The reality is that I love both brands. I just cannot see myself paying the current prices for mosrites when there is another brand out there that are essentially the same quality for much less.(I am not factoring in the excellent models and such which, just like Hallmark, are simply immitations and, from what I have seen, usually eat you up in shipping in the end.)
