Wow- This should prove to be an interesting weekend to be in Vegas. In addition to the Hodad Stomp, the Mondo Lounge - Atomic Frolic event is taking place.

So, in addition to the surf show, you can also check out: The Martini Kings, Clouseaux, The Moon Rays, Project Pimento and others. Not sure how far apart the venues are...but with both of these going on, I am giving some serious thought about making the trek!

check out: www.mondoatomic.com

Tena, this is no attempt to thread-jack or steal thunder from 'the Stomp'. But having both events in one weekend just totally sweetened the pot for me to make the trip (as I've got a long distance to travel).

For those who may recall that there was an Atomic Frolic in Champaign, IL this past summer (where the Madeira and the Metrolites played). This event is an extension of that one. My partner at the Frolic, Java, paired up with Cherry Capri and they are organizing this grand endeavor.

I checked out Deadbolt to see if "The Scariest Band in the World" was an exaggeration. It wasn't. Shocked Laughing

Hey Jet,
I wasn't really planning on going to this at first, as I can see most of those bands in San Diego, and its a bit closer.
But thanks for posting the Info for the Atomic thing-a-ma-jig.
I had seen tid bits on Tiki central about that. But there was no info on the bands. I totally dig Martini Kings, and Project Pimento, and have been wanting to see Clouseaux. Is the Moon Rays a surf band?

thanks again,
just might see you there,

Is the Moon Rays a surf band?

The Moon Rays are out of Chicago and did a sort of spooky lounge thing on their first couple of CDs. Great stuff that I would compare a bit to Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited and some of the instros of Seks Bomba and Combustible Edison. Their latest CD is called "Sinister Surf" and as the title suggests, more surf-based. Check out their site here:

I have been on the fence about going to the Mondo Lounge/Atomic Frolic due to other commitments. I have been catching a litte heat since I was one of the organizers of the Midwestern version of the Frolic. As an obvious surf fan, now I am totally tempted by the thought of seeing Deadbolt, the Creepy Creeps and the other bands at 'the Stomp' on that same weekend! What to do...what to do.

Jet ,
thanks for all the Info.

Now that I think about it, i probably wont be able to swing it (don't pardon the pun) as it would probably cost a pretty penny, for the weekend,

Why did you catch heat for that? too many surf bands?
Yeah I thought it was a bit surf heavy for the tiki, lounge crowd.
I would have loved it though.

crazy people.

Why did you cathc heat for that?

I was only catching heat from Java...the guy I did the Atomic Frolic with in Illinois. I have not been involved in the planning of the Vegas event. Since the Vegas event is an extention of what we did in Illinois, he is giving me a little heat about not committing to go to Vegas yet (all in good fun). But if he were to find out that I was planning to sneak over to the Hodad Stomp for undetermined periods of time...I might be in big trouble.

OK, this is going to take some serious logistical planning. Gotta be at two events at the same time. Any word on when the first band takes the stage each night?

Aaargh...something came up and I am not going to make it out for the Stomp. All my highly-complicated logistical planning (between the Stomp and the Atomic Frolic) for nothing. Crying

By the way, I took my mom to these shows. It was a "birthday present." Laughing
