The Insect Surfers will appear at the First Los Angeles Spaghetti Western Festival on March 19th at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, CA. The festival will be an all-day celebration of spaghetti westerns, with films, live music and special guests. The Insect Surfers will close out the festival (and no doubt bring down the house) with an instrumental tribute to Ennio Morricone's Spaghetti Western themes. L.A.’s own Insect Surfers will tip the hat to Ennio Morricone, performing tracks from “For a Few Guitars More” — an instrumental rock-and-roll tribute to the maestro’s Spaghetti Western themes.

So how was this? A show review for those who live to far away to make it. This sounded very intriguing. Beside the Hellbenders I can't think of an all night spaghetti western show I've seen.

The first 2 movies were so so, of course Fist Full of Dollars was great.
It was neat to have interviews with some of the actors from the films.
Unfortunately when they did a big panel discussion, we were starving
and went to dinner while that was going on.
Hopefully it will show up on youtube.
As for the Insects.
I hate to bad mouth them, but they all agree.
There was great moments, and cringe worthy moments.
Over all I thought it was cool. Liked it a lot.
Though, I think they would have done better if they had started rehearsing a few months earlier.
Dave said the Rehearsals were actually better.
But they just had a off night.

I was talking with Dave at the LA MOAM show and he said that when he signed up to do this gig, he didn't realize how difficult it would be to prepare for it. I cant imagine having to learn all those songs so quickly.
I REALLY REALLY wanted to go to this, but alas, family duty took over

the whole thing was indeed videotaped, and we'll have some footage soon of some of the better numbers!
there was some difficulty at times with no moniters, the soundman for the theatre insisting that we turn down to literally subaudible levels ,and moments of general spazziness ,but there were some very satisfying moments.too.
i liked 'gatling gun' ,but the 2nd movie 'dead men don't count' was a little goofy. there was a funny interview moment when the star of the 2nd movie admitted that he didn't even remember doing the movie!!
the panel was interesting ,the participants mainly discussed the hardships of making low-budget movies where injuries and even deaths were not uncommon. the stars would sometimes end up doing their own stunts to show the crew that they were 'cool' and end up injured! sometimes they wouldn't even get paid!
looking forward to next year's festival!
