I couldn't find the "should surf bands play with other surf bands" thread, BUT

We played on sunday with Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica. This is a band which has two versions, one a 23 piece big band which plays the music of Esquivel, the other a quartet which is broader in repertoire, but still in the "space age bachelor pad" vibe.

they're a great band: vibes, percussion, bass & flute (regular & bass flute). Really great arrangements etc. http://www.orchestrotica.com/

Did the bill work? Yes & no. We were about 7 times louder than they were, and we're not a loud band by any stretch. Attendance was light, but it was sunday night & we've only played a few shows, not a huge following. But overall it seemed like the different crowds enjoyed the different bands.

On the other hand, I went to the Dangers of a Ghost Scorpion/Trabants/Inframen show two days earlier (3 surf bands) and it was totally packed. You never know. . .
