More like surf audios. Stumbled over these covers of the Revels' Revellion and Church Key. I'd never heard these versions by the Renegaids/Renegades.

Awesome Thanks!

Absolutely! I wonder why there's never been a CD reissue.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

A couple of new posts from Duroc1960:

Well that's because GNP/Crescendo re-released it on cassette back in the 1980s...who needs cd anyway?

PS: "Surf Crazy" is better than good: it's GREAT!

I don't think that's the Renegades on the Waikiki Surf Battle LP. But that guitarist cooks on 'The Ward'

I meant to refer to the "Battle of the Bands" LP and not the Waikiki Surf Battle. I get both LPs mixed up because they share some of the same songs.

The Renegades/Renegaids record was one of the first surf records from my dad's collection that I listened to as a kid. It's still one of my top picks in the genre. My old band, the Del-Vamps used to do their version of Exotic. Whoever was the rhythm player on that song really couldn't keep the beat. He's so far off in some spots that it almost kills it but the rave up makes it still kick some surf a$$.

Thanks for sharing your history with the record, Matt! Yeah, the out of synch rhythm guitar in Exotic is one of the awkward flaws in the Surf Crazy LP. For that matter the chant in the middle of Intoxica (not available on line) seems pretty rough to me, too. Maybe factors like that explain why the record hasn't been reissued recently. Levels of toleration for that sort of thing have changed over the years. Still, even with its flaws I like it as much as you do, and I am delighted to have even a pretty scratchy second hand copy of the LP. People I've played it for have been happy to hear it, too.

I don't think any of us have any problem correcting for the glitches. In fact, the glitches are kind of interesting, because they suggest that the pieces were new to the band when they played them. Which makes the band's obvious attempts to evolve them beyond their models all the more interesting.
